Triple-A games are inbound this week and, most likely, the next few weeks up until Christmas time. Since the now-infamous “Kezins crash of 2008″ happened last week, we weren’t able to bring you our weekly comprehensive guide.

Not to worry! We piled it onto this week’s set of releases. Some good stuff awaits gamers’ 60+ dollars — Fallout 3, LittleBigPlanet, and World Tour are some of the big hitters. Have fun (and good luck!) picking out your must-haves from all the must-haves.

We’d normally point you to looking after the break, but this week…we’re not too sure. There’s a lot of likely craptitude coming out on the PC. We counted fourty three in the “Unrated” pile. 43!

Don’t be too scared, though. There’s some fun to be had with Sonic Chronicles, Mega Man 9 (for those of you without a Wii or PS3), Battlefield Heroes (for free!), and ex-Bungie devs’ Age of Booty this week. What will you guys be playing?

Simul-not releases for Mega Man 9 start dropping this week, but wha-? Are those good, Wii games we see down there? Looks like gamers can’t go wrong if they decide to put down fifty bones for de Blob or Mario’s fart-attack nemesis’ game, Warioland: Shake It!. Should give you a reason to dust off that Wii, anyway.

Time-rewinding action can be found on XBLA with the re-release of Duke Nukem 3D on Wednesday, Disney proves that it can make a cool off-road racer with Pure, and further proof that gaming season is upon us — after the break. Continue reading »

Rock Band 2 is out! Yes, the 80+ song expansion pack to the first game finally drops on the Xbox 360; it starts landing on other systems next month. We’ve been conflicted here at Kezins and don’t know whether to dive right into the game at full price or waiting a while to get it a bit cheaper. 20 free downloadable songs might be too much to pass up for us, though…

Ok, we got off course for a bit there. Fans of portable RPGs should have some fun this week with the likes of Dragon Quest IV and Yggdra Union. The Force Unleashed is out, as well, but you guys might want to cautiously approach it as its been getting some mixed reviews.

This week we see the release of Yakuza 2 (sans Michael Madsen and Luke Skywalker’s voice) sporting a subtitled translation with the original Japanese voices intact. We’ve speculated a bit that it might be the last great PS2 game and at $30, why not give it a chance? We certainly loved the first one. And the movie. Plug, plug, plug!

Spore and Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise are the good titles this week and TNA iMPACT! looks like it’d be a good addition to your collection from what we’ve seen so far. As long as it plays like our favorite N64 wrasslin’ games of old, we’ll be happy.

Making a repeat appearance this week to, what we’d think, repel potential buyers from its stench further is Vampire Rain: Altered Species which sucked it up on Xbox 360 and is looking to do the same on PS3. It never bodes well when a game’s demo is only released in Japan (like Vampire Rain did) and Americans never get a taste of it…tsk, tsk.

Other than that, we get some quality games this week with Mercenaries 2 and the long-awaited Spore. We’ve heard that the former’s online co-op might be a bit limiting with friends needing to be in close proximity to work, but we’re still looking forward to blowing shit up with a buddy in beautiful high-def.

The Red Faction: Guerilla Beta just received a very nice update for the Xbox 360 testing going on right now.  Gaming Today recently reported on the update and it certainly looks nice. The following changes have been reported:

  • Fixed clients seeing excessive lag when performing destruction with the sledgehammer.
  • Fixed a few crashes during gameplay.
  • Fixed players sometimes dropping out during matchmaking.
  • Fixed clients not seeing the countdown timer during matchmaking before there are enough players to launch the game.
  • Fixed the countdown timer halting at zero without starting a match
  • Fixed the excessive darkness of Deadzone.
  • Added NAT type to the bottom right of the main menu.
  • Changed patience dots to not cause a line break when matchmaking.
  • Changed “BACK” to “DONE” on the match results screen.
  • All party members can now hit Y to bring up their friends list in the party lobby, rather than just the leader.
  • Finishing a match now awards 25 XP, rather than 5 XP.
  • Removed the backpack info popup when you pick up a backpack.
That looks like about it for now, but Red Faction: Guerilla is shaping up to be a “must-have” game.  The full version of the game will be released sometime during the first quarter of 2009.  What’s interesting about the game is the developer’s choice to make the game as a third-person shooter.  Prior to Guerilla, all Red Faction games were played as FPS titles.  Supposedly, the switch was made due to the fact that it’s easier to see falling and flying objects in 3rd person.

Unless you’re looking for some shovel ware on the DS, it looks like it’ll be light on game releases this week.

The highlight this week is Roogoo, a puzzle game that takes you back to ye old elementary school days, which isn’t half bad and has been available on Xbox Live for the past couple of weeks. It’s $19.99 on PC, though, so those of you with an Xbox 360 might want to go with that release instead for half the price and cutesy graphics in high-def. Plus! Achievements…got you there, huh?
