Star Wars: The Force Unleashed UK Packshots

July 25, 2008

The official ‘Force Unleashed’ covers for the United Kingdom (UK) release of the title are finally out there.  They all look pretty much the same, but we figured we’d go ahead and upload all of them for your viewing pleasure.  We’re not sure at this point which version will be the best for your money, but our bets are on the 360 and PS3 versions. The Wii version also ads the fun aspect of light saber fighting.

Jar Jar Binks Frozen In Carbonite

July 25, 2008

Jar Jar, the character who ruined ‘The Phantom Menace’ has finally been frozen in carbonite.  I’m just trying to figure out why it took so long.  Even though it’s been 9 years, Jar Jar still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for the film.  The above piece is actually on display at Industrial Light & Magic.  While it’s somewhat satisfying, they probably should have simply dumped him off at the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine.

May the Force be with Soulcalibur IV, other Star Wars Characters coming?

July 23, 2008

If you don’t know by now, Darth Vader will be an exclusive character in SoulCalibur IV on the Playstation 3.  In an interview with the Director, Katsutoshi Sasaki, PlayStation.Blog allowed him to spill his Republic Credits on everything he knows about Darth Vader.

Release Date: July 29th, 2008

System: PS3 (with Vader), Xbox60 (with Yoda)

In working with LucasArts, they said they are eagerly anticipating their characters to be recreated in the Soulcalibur universe. They allowed us to create Vader relatively-freely. The trial and error process to build Vader is definitely a fond memory for all the Soulcalibur IV animators and game designers.

Another challenge that we encountered was how to implement the “Force” from the Star Wars universe. If we were to use the Force in gameplay, we had to make it as an absolute power just like the movie. However, if we didn’t set any limitations on it, the game’s balance would have been completely off. Ultimately, we created a Force gauge to put a limit on using the power. However, we felt players would be frustrated if they couldn’t use the Force on an empty gauge, so we are allowing them to use the Force but it will be counted as a penalty against their character. I think it was good compromise and can be used as a tactic.

The possibility of seeing additional Star Wars characters is possible, with PlayStation Network add-on’s.  Sasaki menion’s that LucasArts is “eagerly anticipatiting” their characters to be released, so could there be additional Star Wars playable characters?  I say, please add Watto!

Feels So Good To Be Bad, Empire Edition! The Force Unleashed

July 17, 2008

There’s only 1 other Star Wars game that will put a hurdle in my way to Knights of the Republic 3 (KOTOR3), and The Force Unleashed is that hurdle. I’ve talked to my co-workers about which path they take in Star Wars games, and surprisingly I hear them say the Light Path.  Are they nuts?  Sometimes I’ll walk down the street with a dollar attached to my shoe with dental floss to see the hobo’s chase it.  I’m so evil, I go to my McDonald’s drive-thru, order an Angus Mushroom Swiss, pay for it with cash and speed right pass the pick-up window.  Leaving them wondering, why.  I never answer.  I just drive past them going 17 MPH laughing my way to evilness.  Yeah, call me a Dark Side follower.  Btw, best bad guy with a light saber is General Grievous! So my point to this craziness is that in The Force Unleashed, there will be no Light Path.  Destruction is all you get.  “You lose Sir, Good Day Sir!”

Check out the next reason why you’ll see my PS3 screen name logged into this game… when it comes out of course.

Coming to PS3, X360 and Wii - September 16, 2008.

Star Wars™ The Clone Wars™: Lightsaber Duels™

June 24, 2008

Being the avid Star Wars fan that I am, I’m disappointed to say “I did not know there was a new Theatrical Star Wars movie coming 8/15/08″  After my brother researched the movie, I then realized, “Is that why there’s a new Star Wars: The Clone Wars game coming out?”  So after Captain Obvious hit me with a kendo stick, I woke up from my 27 year nap.  Yes, this will be a movie inspired game.  Those types of games ALWAYS fail.  Example: Hulk, Superman, and E.T.  But after reading up on Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels, there’s a couple things I’ve noticed for this upcoming title.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed w/ Wii-Sabers

April 15, 2008

With September 16th getting closer, day by day, we’re now reminded how exciting this game looks to be on the Nintendo Wii. Joystiq.com was able to get their mitts on this game, and give pretty good details on how the gameplay feels. The writer describes how good the feedback was when swinging the Wii-saber.

Excerpt from Joystiq:

“Each player picks one of 27 characters — including about 11 costume-variations on the single-player apprentice — and the fights take place in nine Star Wars locations. The characters include a young Luke, Darth Maul, General Grievous, and others that don’t relate to The Force story. And their moves are all about the same as in the single-player game, so Luke uses the lightning strike alongside the “dark” characters.”

Force-grab an enemy with a Nunchuk button. But add to that by throwing them with the analog stick. An even more complicated combo would be to grab, strike with lightning, then throw an opponent. With other twists such as a way to plunge the lightsaber straight down after a jump, LucasArts says the game has about 30 different combinations of attacks.
