The Nintendo Wii really needed more RPGs and the console is starting to deliver. Ougon no Kizuna, being developed by Jaleco, may be one of the more interesting RPGs to hit consoles in some time. It’s also nice to see Jaleco back in action. They made some really awesome games back in the 1980s.

The game is an action-RPG, where you will use the Wii Nunchuck in battle. I don’t know a lot about the game yet, but it certainly looks like a title we need to keep our eyes on.

One of the greatest RPGs of all-time is finally headed to the Nintendo DS.  ’Chrono Trigger’ which is considered by many to be one of the best SNES titles is finally getting a remake.  We don’t know much yet, but we do know they are creating a new dungeon for it, cleaning up the graphics, adding a wireless play mode and the obvious dual-screen presentation.  I haven’t been truly excited about a DS game in a long time until now.  No official release date has been mentioned yet.  We’re hoping it’s later this year…

The Xbox brand has never been one to host the best RPGs, but it hasn’t been from Microsoft’s lack of trying. We got a taste of traditional RPG goodness with Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, and Blue Dragon and Square Enix has just announced the next wave of RPGs for the system.

The biggest surprise is probably that Star Ocean: The Last Hope, once believed to be PS3-exclusive, is headed to the Xbox 360 in 2009. It’s likely that it wont be completely exclusive to the Xbox 360, but it should still come as a bit of shock to fans of the series as it had never left Sony’s camp before.

Other games previewed at the Microsoft RPG Press Event in Japan, by way of Famitsu.com, were Infinite Undiscovery (due Sept. 2 in North America), Tales of Vesperia (dropping August 7 in Japan), and The Last Remnant which will simultaneously release in all regions this winter on the Xbox 360 — the PS3 version following some time after.
