Braid: Do NOT Use a Walkthrough (Xbox 360)

August 15, 2008

Braid is one of the most interesting games to hit the Xbox LIVE Arcade in some time. At first glance, it seems like a tough game. Once you are adjusted to the strange physics, it’s really not that bad. Creators of the game are urging gamers to avoid using walkthroughs. I definitely have to agree with them this time. Walkthroughs and FAQs tend to ruin the challenge of beating a game. Do you not lose the entire point of playing when you basically look up the answers? I have yet to purchase a guide to a single video game I have played and I avoid game FAQs and walkthroughs, because I love the challenge and reward of beating a game with my own mind.

Sessler’s Soapbox: Diablo III’s Flaming Fanboys

August 14, 2008

Sessler is back with another interesting edition of Sessler’s Soapbox. This time he’s talking about Diablo III’s flaming fanboys. I agree with him that many gamers have narrow minded views about how games are supposed to be. I agree that the creators of Diablo III have the right to change the game. It does have better graphics and better animation. Adam also mentioned that we’ve only seen about 20 minutes of footage, so we really don’t know how good or bad the title will be at this point. Are people afraid of change like Adam says?

I Ain’t Vot’n For No Fag: Getting in Touch With Your Inner Ignorance

August 5, 2008

In the upcoming election, it is a battle of image; it is also a battle of ego versus inspiration. In terms of preserving our young republic, we are a critical moment, will we be the industrious, innovative trail blazers of the past, or will we continue to run the country into the ground with ‘ego’ based policy.
You are probably wondering what I mean by ‘ego’ based policy. To me, it means a policy that is based on pride and posturing. It is a mentality of adolescence. In my middle school years, I would get in a fight over a crush with a friend, or would let the air out of a friend’s tires for disagreeing on where to go in a friendly bike ride. What is my point? The point is, those things are a normal part of development if you are 12 years old. Those types of behavior are not normal if you are the leader of the presumed powerhouse of the world.

John McCain has made it clear through his posturing that he wants to expand the U.S. Empire. He has made it clear that he is willing to attack a country based on minor insults or upon a rumor of hearing something he feels is disrespectful. Like I said, that is ok if you are 12 years old, the problem is, there are no ‘take backs’ when the missiles start to fly.

Mano-a-Mano with Filefront’s Daniel Perez, RE: A Vampyre Story

July 10, 2008

Gaming Today’s PR / Marketing Manager Daniel Perez, wrote an article almost a year ago interviewing Bill Tiller on his upcoming point and click adventure game for the PC called A Vampyre Story.  In the article, it’s mentioned the game would see an early 2008 release.  Well, were past the halfway mark in 2008 and no Vampyre Story yet.  Since Daniel interviewed Bill Tiller, we figured we’d squeeze some more info out of him.  We sent our 4 eyed, Ellio’s Pizza lover a detailed questionnaire demanding answers, and what we got were.. well.. answers.

Juan Perez: “Hola Daniel, after reading your great interview with Bill Tiller we here at Kezins.com would like to know “When can we see Vampyre Story?”
“Bill stated early 2008, and our index fingers can’t wait any longer to point-n-click our way through A Vampyre Story”

Daniel Perez: “You’re telling me it isn’t early 2008 any more?”

Is The PS3 For The Elderly?

June 21, 2008

Recent studies have shown that the majority of PS3 owners are over the age of 45. While this may lead some to believe that most PS3 gamers are over 45, that would be a false assumption. From talks I have had with various retailers, it appears that males over 45 are still buying the PS3 to watch movies on, not play games. I haven’t seen any specific studies breaking down what the age groups are playing on the PS3, I’d assume that the average PS3 gamer would probably fit into the 30-40 range. As an interesting side-note, the average Xbox 360 owner is 35-44 and the average Wii owner is 18-24. While some fanboys may still cling to the “which console is best” debate, it really does not matter at this point. Each system appeals to an entirely different demographic. All three consoles in this generation will be considered a success once it’s all said and done…

Citrus Industry, Midgets & Ghost Hunter Named Roy… WTF?

June 19, 2008

I spend a good chunk of my free time watching random videos on YouTube.  This time I came across a video of some half-naked guy telling a strange story about the citrus industry, midgets, midget dating sites and such.  I watched it several times to see what the point of this video was, but I’m still clueless.  Who the hell is this Roy guy anyway?   We know he’s in the citrus industry and hunts ghosts, but I’m not sure if he even exists…

Liberty City & San Andreas Residents Exposed To Radioactive Substances

May 28, 2008

We’re not really sure at this point what exactly is going on with residents in Liberty City and San Andreas, but it’s obvious that they have been exposed to some type of radioactive substances. G4 recently uncovered some interesting photos documenting the abnormal physical features of two residents.

First it was a six-fingered hooker in Liberty City and now they have discovered a gang banger in San Andreas who uses his thumb as a trigger finger.  WTF?  Was this intentional on the part of RockStar? We may never know…

LittleBigPlanet PS3 Preview, Coming in September

May 20, 2008

Our video gaming blogging colleagues, 1UP.com’s Garnett Lee had a chance to sink his teeth on LittleBigPlanet (LBP) and he liked what he tasted!  One of PSN’s constantly delayed titles, is looking like the LittleEngineThatWillBeReleasedInSeptember.  Overall, the review was positive and if your big on “level creating” LittleBigPlanet may be the game for you.  I don’t see LBP as a hot release until “PSN Home” hits our newly designed PSN Store.  It will be continue to be The New Store until they change it again.

Background: At this point, everyone knows LittleBigPlanet as “that game with the cute sack-puppet characters where you make your own levels and stuff.” Technically, the “game” portion is a 2D platformer with a little bit of spatial depth, and it’ll ship with several premade levels. LittleBigPlanet is truly distinguished, though, by its potential for becoming a creative outlet. With its disarmingly cute style and user-friendly tools that also offer tremendous depth, LittleBigPlanet makes imagination the only real limitation to what you can create. It’s the exact opposite of the intimidating complexity of, say, building something in Unreal.

What we (1UP.com) played: For an hour or so, we sat down with Alex Evans, cofounder of developer Media Molecule, and played around with LittleBigPlanet. We tried out some of the levels planned to ship with the game (all of which were created in-game exactly the same way you’ll be able to — no cheating from the developers). And then we dove into creation mode, starting off with a blank slate, and messed around with all the different toys and tools.
