Old-school SEGA Saturn players might remember a cool game titled ‘Death Tank’. It was actually a hidden game inside Duke Nukem 3D (Death Tank Zwei) and PowerSlave (Death Tank). Although it was simple, it was hours and hours of fun. The XBLA version will have numerous upgrades and 4-player online play. The basic premise of the game is to take out enemy tanks on the landscape before they take you out. It’s a lot like classic Battleship because it was turn-based. If you missed, you’d basically just have to sit back and wait to see if they hit you. While some may consider this an unrealistic aspect, I felt it added to the suspense. If you like Scorched Earth or Worms, this is your kind of game.

We all remember how pretty much any “2006″ sports title had achievements that were practically handed to the player. An infant could get 1,000 achievement points those days. It looks like Madden 2009 has gone back to those days. I was actually surprised when I had earned every possible achievement after about 5 games. While I am not a huge supporter of achievements, I feel like developers should still use them responsibly. Why not make players earn their score? You can sell a crap game if it has easy achievements and they know this. I’m sure Madden 2009 would have initially sold just as well with harder achievements though. These easy achievements will certainly boost sales once the game is older.
Out of all the achievements from Madden 2009, only one was a slight challenge for me to pick up. That was achieving six sacks with one player in a game. I pulled that off on my 5th game. If you are half-decent at Madden, you should be able to get over 400 gamerscore from the first game alone, especially if you play against a rival.
ArchLord is one of the more popular free-to-play MMOs currently on the scene. They reached the half a million player mark back in May after Codemasters changed the subscription model to “free-to-play”. Episode 3: Spirits Awakening (expansion) was released recently and is free to download for existing and new players. If you’d like to find out a little more about the game, check out the official site.
Eversim has just released Geo-Political Simulator, or G.P.S., upon the masses and promises to provide gamers with the most authentic power-hungry simulation you can find.
The player chooses a country he wants to control as the President, monarch, etc. and will make choices that will affect the economics and political structure of the chosen nation. From the press release that French developer Eversim sent over, it looks like an interesting little game that they hope to keep as updated as possible with frequent patches that reflect what happens in our world.
Here’s a video of the refreshingly unique game:

Was Brett Favre’s decision to return influenced by his Madden 2009 Cover Photo?
As you may already heard, Brett Favre is trying to make a comeback. He currently has not reported to any camp yet, including his former team the Green bay Packers. The couple of teams that have shown interest are the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Bucs. Since April 24th, when Brett was announced the new cover athlete for Madden 09, minor rumblings began about his return. Could the video game football franchise have possibly influenced his return? If he DOES play this upcoming year, I say it helped! We have new screens of Madden 2009, and boy do they look good. Here are some of the new features you can expect to see this year:

Playing Blitz: The League on the PS2 was ok. But now with LT, you can bet someone’s legs are going to break on PS3 and X360. That’s right, Lawrence Taylor will be appearing in Blitz: The League II playing on the good ole’ New York Nightmare’s.
As the only videogame with a story mode exploring the darker side of pro sports, Blitz: The League II puts the player in complete control as he ventures through brutal on-the-field competition and entertaining off-the-field drama in his quest to reach the League Championship. Peter Egan (Playmakers) returns to pen the most entertaining Blitz storyline yet.
In 1984 Arcade Galleria’s had their hands on an instant classic. Kung-Fu Master was a great action fighter
game that included 5 floors of kicking and punching (and sweeping midgets).
The player takes the role of Keiji Thomas, a man in a Keikogi and slippers. Thomas’s girlfriend, Sylvia, has been kidnapped by “Mr. X”, and Thomas must fight through five side-scrolling floors full of enemies to rescue her.
The first floor of the temple contains Grippers (standard Kung Fu henchmen who charge Thomas and grab him, draining his life bar) and Knife Throwers (men who throw knives high or low). But subsequent levels introduce Tom Toms (small dwarves who can surprise Thomas by jumping on his head), poisonous moths, fire-breathing dragons (Thomas must punch or kick them before they breathe fire), snakes, and confetti balls. (These hang in mid-air for a few seconds and then explode into three pieces after a few seconds; Thomas must jump kick these before they explode. If Thomas is hit by any pieces of debris from an exploding confetti ball, he takes massive damage.)
Each of the five floors ends with a different boss who must be defeated before Thomas can climb the stairs to the next floor. The first two bosses are ordinary men armed with a stick and honed boomerangs, respectively. The third is a Giant, the fourth a Black Magician, and the fifth is Mr. X, a versatile Kung Fu master. Thomas must complete each floor within a fixed time. The timer starts at 2000. If it falls below 330, a warning sounds. If a boss defeats Thomas, the boss laughs. Although there are five bosses, the game only uses two different synthesized laughs.
Enjoy your Old School Sunday! Hii-Ya!

It’s not surprising that Player X and Paramount just launched the game ‘The Love Guru’ for mobile phones. They are making the game available through more than 140 carriers, making it accessible to over 2.3 billion people. We don’t know a lot about the game here, but we do know that the title is made up of 6 mini-games where you try to beat various mental challenges to achieve total enlightenment. As an interesting side note, we do know Jessica Alba is a gamer, so I’d definitely like to get her thoughts on the game. We sent her an email, so will see if we ever get a response…
“We’re delighted to be working with Paramount Digital Entertainment on The Love Guru. A Mike Myers’ movie is a big event and we have worked very closely with Paramount Pictures to ensure the game matches the quality, humour and originality of the movie,” said Tony Pearce, Player X CEO.
