PlayStation 3 fans, today is THE demo day you’ve been waiting for.  Mirror’s Edge arrives on the PSN!  Xbox Live members will get the demo on Halloween (Oct. 31st)

Releasing on November 11th in North America, Mirror’s Edge is a First Person shooter (FPS) powered by the Unreal Engine 3 with the addition of new lighting, developed by DICE.  Mirror’s Edge aims to “convey the strain and physical contact with the environment”, according to senior producer Owen O’Brien, and to instill a freedom of movement not yet seen in the first-person genre.

While it comes as no surprise that a game with “Grand Theft Auto” in the title would go on to sell millions upon millions, it does come as a bit of a surprise that it has beaten ALL of Nintendo’s console offerings, saleswise.

NPD has reported that Grand Theft Auto IV has gone and sold a cool $6,293,000 in North America and Europe (the game will be out shortly in Japan). Followed closely by Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and Guitar Hero III, in order.

International Movie Star/Model Maggie Q to star in the upcoming EA Racing Game Need For Speed Undercover.  Coming to the PS3, X360, Wii, DS, PSP and PC November 18th.

Don’t know how they do it, but the Need for Speed team keeps rolling in hot chicks to star in their video games.  The “Balls of Fury” ping pong star will be featured in EA’s Need For Speed: Undercover.  I’m a fan of Need for Speed, and their great in-game videos.  They’ve used very attractive women before, but I think Maggie Q is their biggest star.  I guess Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift motivated Maggie Q.

EA’s Need for Speed Undercover takes the franchise back to its roots and re-introduces break-neck cop chases, the world’s hottest cars and spectacular highway battles.

Need for Speed Undercover features a deep and engaging story of spectacular Hollywood-style live-action that will transport players into the fictional world of the Tri-City Bay Area,” said Bill Harrison, Need for Speed Undercover Executive Producer. “Working with talent the caliber of Maggie Q allows us to deliver an unparalleled level of storytelling that will keep players engaged in between 180-mile-an-hour races.”

Maggie Q, who has starred in Mission Impossible III and Live Free or Die Hard, plays Federal Agent Chase Linh, a seductive handler who recruits and guides players as they go undercover. Players will take on dangerous jobs and compete in races in order to infiltrate and takedown a ruthless international crime syndicate.

“I’ve always been a fan of racing games and working on Need for Speed Undercover was an amazing experience,” said Maggie Q. “I was so impressed by the scope and quality of the overall production that goes into a videogame these days. It was like any other day on a Hollywood set; I felt right at home. The Black Box team is doing tremendous work here and I can’t wait to see the final game.”

Need for Speed Undercover is being developed by Black Box in Vancouver, B.C., and is slated to be in stores North America on November 18 and in Europe on November 21. The game will be available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and Wii™ as well as the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo DS™, PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) handheld entertainment system, PC and mobile.

The Championship Gaming Series (CGS), the only sanctioned worldwide professional gaming league, opened free registration for the inaugural CGS Pro-Am Division, greatly expanding the opportunity for aspiring professional gamers to take on the CGS pros. I can’t even count how many people I know who claim they are just as good as the pros, but they always have some excuse. Now it’s time for the bitchassness to end because the CGS is giving all of us a chance to show what we’re made of.

Full Press Release with registration follows:

LOS ANGELES – August 12, 2008 –

Championship Gaming SeriesTM (CGS), the only worldwide professional gaming league, opened free registration for the inaugural CGS Pro-Am Division, greatly expanding the opportunity for aspiring professional gamers to take on the CGS pros and see if they have what it takes to compete alongside the best of CGS, perhaps winning some cold hard cash in the process.

First announced earlier this summer, amateur and professional gamers from North America will have the chance to showcase their talent against CGS’ most elite gaming stars for a share of a prize purse totaling US$40,000 during the Pro-Am division’s inaugural season.

The CGS Pro-Am division features one official PC league title – Valve’s Counter-Strike®: Source® (CS:S), along with two other popular Valve games, Counter-Strike®: 1.6 and Team Fortress 2 (TF2). CS:S, CS 1.6 and TF2 represent three of the most popular and successful eSports PC titles of all time and now gamers throughout North America can step up to prove they have what it takes to challenge the CGS pros.

Xbox 360 gamers will also have a chance to compete against CGS stars on Xbox LIVE via the league’s official Xbox titles, Tecmo’s Dead or Alive® 4 and Forza Motorsport® 2 from Microsoft Game Studios, as well as on other popular Xbox 360 games that will be featured in upcoming Xbox LIVE matches. Competitions will take place every other Friday featuring CGS pros, kicking off this Friday, August 15, when Xbox LIVE gamers from around the globe can take on Dallas Venom players Michelle “Phoenix” Pleet and Manny “Master” Rodriguez in DOA4. For more info, visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/calendar/playthepros/2008/0815-dallasvenom.htm

PC gamers interested in testing their skills against the pros should register at http://pro-am.thecgs.com/ now through September 3, 2008. The first season of the Pro-Am Division kicks off September 10.

KOEI announced today that a free demo of Romance of The Three Kingdoms®XI (RTKXI) for Windows-based PC is available now. Gamers can visit www.koei.com/rtkxipc to view the official trailer and download the demo.  I’ve only had about 30 minutes to check out the demo, but it’s certainly getting me excited about the game.  It seems like I was playing the original game yesterday.  Of course yesterday was the 1980s and I was playing it on an Amiga.  XI has been around for a little while, but this is the first time we’ll see a PC version of the game in English.

The complete version of the game will be available to consumers in North America and Brazil beginning September 9, 2008 exclusively through digital download.  I’m sure the game will eventually end up in stores, but online will be the only way to get it in the beginning.  The suggested retail price is only $19.99, so the game isn’t a bad buy for what you are getting.

When I first heard about ‘Mario Super Sluggers’, I was expecting ‘Wii Sports Baseball’ with a Mario skin.  While some may see it this way, I’m basically considering it an advanced sequel to the Wii Sports Baseball game which was highly flawed.  Fortunately, the Mario baseball game will allow you to control more than just hitting and pitching.  As expected, you will see Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Wario etc in the game, as well as your Mii if you chose to use it.  Up to four players can take part in the action at once and the game is full of fun mini-games.

While it may look like a cheap way to get more out of ‘Wii Sports Baseball’, this title actually looks like it will be pretty good.  You can find out on August 25 when the game releases in North America for $49.99.

If you a big Gears of War fan, this is one announcement you will certainly want to check out. Amazon.com will be the exclusive retailer for the Lancer replica and “Headshot” Locust Drone action figure in North America. The prices are a little high for some wallets, but they are probably worth every penny.

PC gamers don’t have much longer to wait for Grand Theft Auto IV. The game will be hitting shelves on November 18th and 21st in North America and Europe respectively. For more information on the game, visit http://www.rockstargames.com/IV.  While I think it’s a little late in the game for anyone to get extremely excited about a PC release of GTA IV, we can always hope that the mod community finds a way to make the PC version exciting.

There’s been some rumor-mongering on the interwebs (when isn’t there?) about the possible release date for Final Fantasy XIII. The article, which has since been pulled, pointed to the now non-PS3 exclusive releasing in Japan next summer and making it out to North American by the end of the year.

It seems likely that that’s the time table for the game as Square Enix recently announced that they’re packing in a demo of the game in the upcoming Bluray Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete next year. So…they have been working on something, it just takes time, patient gamers, it takes time.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, Insomniac Games’s bite-sized $14.99 adventure, will be hitting the PlayStation Network on August 21 in North America and Europe — Japanese gamers get the game a day later.

We’re big fans of the team’s first Ratchet outing on the PS3 and are excited to be getting our fix of mascot action along with Resistance 2 this year. While the game may be released in digestible form (it will likely be 3-4 hours long), it further cements Sony’s drive to create compelling DLC on its system.

The game starts right after the events of the PS3 game, do you guys plan on quest-in’ for booty?
