Wonder what happened to Nathan Hale?  Find out on November 4th!

Coming to a PlayStation 3 console near you, Resistance 2 has an official release date.  We’ve seen previous screens and gameplay, so there’s no doubt that the 2nd wave of Chimera will be a hit!  For $59.99 you can pick up yourself Resistance 2 and experience Nathan Hale’s quest as it begins in good ole San Francisco.

Looking for the upgrade, the special edition priced at $79.99 comes with added benefits:

  • Copy of Resistance 2 with special edition cover artwork.
  • A double-sided art book covering “war-torn America from two unique perspectives.”
  • A bonus DVD with a behind-the-scenes video, a preview of an upcoming Resistance 2 novel, a Resistance chronology video, and a digital copy of issue #0 of the Resistance comic.
  • An exclusive in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer weapon skin.
  • And last but not least, a Chimera Hybrid action figure created by DC Unlimited.

Multiplayer and the aspect of the game I’ve been looking forward to, co-op, will have a beta session in October.  Here are the 3 ways to possible be selected:

  1. Pre-order Resistance 2 from a participating retailer
  2. Purchase Qore episode 3 (annual subscribers already entered)
  3. Apply for the beta at Insomniac’s official site, but there’s no guarantee your name will be picked.

If you have followed my writing over the past few years, you wouldn’t be surprised to find out that I’m not the biggest Nintendo Wii fan on the planet. When I hear people talking about how it’s the greatest console ever, I just find it extremely difficult to understand how they could possibly think this. Nintendo fanboys sometimes remind me of women with battered person syndrome. The Wii is basically like a busted crack head who beats his wife (the Nintendo Wii fanboy) yet she still loves him for some reason. It simply does not make the least bit of sense. Don’t take my post too personal. I still enjoy certain aspects of the Wii. I just find that it’s a highly flawed system that receives far more kudos than it should have.

When the Xbox Live Arcade initiative was just being rolled out back in 2005 with the launch of the Xbox 360, a genuine neon-emblazed classic came out day one on the service, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Fast-forward three years and we finally get a sequel for it; is it worth your 800 Microsoft points?

The short answer: yes. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is not only an upgrade to the first title, but a real step forward in accessibility, variety, and fun even if you weren’t a hardcore player of the first. Whereas GW1 let you putz around the game and easily blast a few of the geometric enemies for ONLY a few moments (before quickly dying after the barrage of enemies were released), GW:RE2 is a longer, more rewarding experience.

First off, the higher ticket price means you get new modes and added four-player support. The game is split up into six different modes and each one has its different leaderboards — the scores amongst you and your friends are prominently displayed at boot up — and each one varies the gameplay slightly.

A couple of the standouts modes are “Pacifism” and “King,” but the rest are welcome additions, as well. What once used to be an achievement in the first game, becomes a reality in GW:RE2 with the first mode mentioned as you’re stripped away from your power to shoot and have to, instead, traverse the map shot-less and hit “gates” that explode as you pass through them. The latter mode asks you to only shoot in designated “zones,” or circles, moving from one to the next weaseling through the numerous baddies.

Faithful fans of the first game shouldn’t fret though, as the original “Evolved” mode is included along with a few other great modes. Fundamentally, Bizarre Creations has made a few significant changes with this iteration that introduces a “geom” system to the original gameplay. Geoms are specks that the enemies leave behind after shooting them and each one adds to your overall multiplayer. Before, when you died that’d be the end of your multiplier, but GW:RE2’s geom system keeps it going when you’ve respawned. Expect even higher scores this time around.

Multiplayer in Geo Wars 2 comes in two flavors: co-op and competitive. You can play with up three of your buddies and take on every mode that’s available in single-player. Unfortunately, you can’t upload the scores that you acrue with your team of crackshots, but its still an entertaining diversion for when you have company over. Online is noticeably absent, but for a game that relies on split-second reactions and decisions its understandable why it was omitted; sometimes unreliable net lag would’ve killed the experience. Make sure to play multiplayer on a bigger screen than the 13-incher reserved for the kids’ table, though, as the camera pans out far enough to make your ship look like a distant star.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 does so much with the single “map” that it easily warrants the 800 Points ($10) price of entry without going into Geometry Wars: Galaxies territory and adding tons of levels. The six different modes (including the meaty, 20-level “Sequence” mode) are more than enough game for this DLC marvel. Log into your Xbox Live account and download it now.

Well, when we first reported that Knights of the Old Republic 3 was coming, we were right.  A report on Portfolio.com has confirmed that LucasArts and BioWare are working together to bring KOTOR 3 as an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online).  In an interview at E3 this week, Electronic Arts chief executive John Riccitiello said that EA is working on the next version of Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic, and it will most certainly have a massively multiplayer online component to it.

All we can say is “It’s about time!”.

We have the interview below:

Kezins.com wasn’t able to trek out to the smog-filled vistas that the Los Angeles’ downtown sprawl has to offer this year for E3, but we will be filling you in on some of the more exciting things coming out of the week-long “festivities.”

The biggest show stopper was the reveal that Final Fantasy XIII is no longer a Sony exclusive and the PS3 version will be releasing alongside an Xbox 360 version day and date in the U.S. and Europe, as Perez just reported.

Hit the link for a quick rundown of everything else that was revealed, shown, and affirmed (as the pre-E3 leaks can attest to)…

The below footage of Gears of War 2 doesn’t show the greatest amount of detail since it was recorded using a crappy video recorder.  What’s makes this video even more annoying to listen to, is the constant yapping by some irritating chick with her older “college -cool” boyfriend.

After a long week of waiting for the full length trailer to be released, Infinity Ward Treyarch and Activision did not disappoint. World at War is rumored to be set back in the World War II era. Although this would not be a bad idea, it is a huge let down. WW2 games are the highest among FPS. But what COD5 does bring to the table is another great multiplayer. Let’s just hope the single player has more to offer because that’s COD4’s only black spot.

Viva Pinata DS

The likelihood that two systems from competing manufacturers would connect harmoniously in the happy world Rare created with Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise and Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise is slim…but they did it. Rare figured out how to connect the Xbox 360 and DS to share info from the two games, but stumbled on the discovery too late, according to MTV’s Multiplayer Blog.

The developer talks to Stephen Totilo on how the Xbox 360 Vision Cam would scan images from the DS game and use those to integrate both console and handheld gardens. Unfortunately for gamers, Rare is too far in development at the moment to implement such a feature. Maybe in sequels down the line Microsoft and Nintendo can learn to get along — or their games anyway.

Unfortunately, it looks likes rumors that there would be some form of multiplayer for The Force Unleashed on the PS3 and 360 turned out to be false.  From what I’ve seen, it still looks like they are both better options than the Wii version.  The only thing that the Wii version will offer that’s special is light saber duels, which could be a lot of fun, but I wonder how quickly the novelty will wear off.  Regardless, The Force Unleashed is shaping up to be one of the greatest Star Wars games ever.  I have a feeling it’s not going to be as welcomed as KOTOR, but it will probably be close.  In other LucasArts news, the company decided not to renew it’s membership with the Electronic Software Association.
