Trailer Trash: Soul Calibur IV, What’s New Interview

July 29, 2008

Soul Calibur IV is released today Tuesday July 29th, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStaion 3 for $59.99.

Today is unOfficially Soul Calibur IV day!  Why not go out, and grab a large breasted cgi woman and “sweep together”. (Seinfeld joke).  Get a look at a new character, online functionality, the Soul Gauge, finishing moves, and character customization.

The Good, The Bad, and the Unrated…July 28

July 28, 2008

Very little to get excited about this week but a couple gems that stick out like a sore thumb: Soulcalibur IV and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, the sequel to the game that made twin-stick shooting and neon all the rage with its debut on XBLA in 2005.

We got a chance to try out Soulcalibur 4 at Comic Con this past weekend and have placed our pre-orders well in advance already. This blogger took Yoda for a spin and found that beating his opponent was not the hardest of feats as the green goblin jumps around much like in Star Wars Episode II. Expect to tailor your strategy against him with plenty of low kicks and no grab moves.

Geometry Wars: RE2? Skip the demo and dip into your Microsoft Points fund to outright buy it. ’nuff said.

(The following scores were “aggregated-tive-ized” as of July 28, 2008 via Metacritic)

The Good…

  • Soulcalibur IV (360, PS3) - Metascore: 94 (PS3)

The Bad…

  • City Life 2008 Edition (PC) - Metascore: 66
  • Baseball Mogul 2009 (PC) - Metascore: 65
  • Art of Murder: FBI Confidential (PC) - Metascore: 51

The Unrated…

Xbox 360

  • Spectral Force 3
  • Summer Athletics
  • Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Wii

  • Summer Athletics
  • SNK Arcade Classics Volume I
  • MLB Power Pros 2008

PC

  • Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI
  • Everlight
  • Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm
  • Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games
  • Legend: Hand of God

PS2

  • Summer Athletics
  • MLB Power Pros 2008

PAIN: Hotel Coral Essex in Paradise

July 28, 2008

With PS3’s Summer Sale going on till July 31, I thought this was the perfect time to go ahead and buy me some PAIN for $4.99. With the additional add-on characters, I clearly understood PAIN’s sexual innuendo’s. I mean their Ninja character’s name in Hung-Lo, come one.

As I positioned the main character, Jarvis, into PAIN’s catapult I noticed the building in the distance located in the center of the screen. Watching “Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise”, I quickly realized the resemblance. It was obvious to me, that the level “Paindemonium” was set in Miami, Fl. Check out the rest of the pics below:

Ok, ok So I knocked out some letters, sue me!

First Impression: For $4.99, it’s a great buy on the PSN Summer Sale.  Full Review coming soon…

Trailer Trash: SIREN: Blood Curse

July 11, 2008

If you wondering why ‘Trailer Trash’ is in the title it has NOTHING to do with the quality of the trailer.  Just our gimmicky approach to keeping our trailer videos organized.  Pathetic.. I know.  Looking ahead, coming July 24th to a PSN near you, is the upcoming thriller/horror Asian themed downloadable game, ‘SIREN:Blood Curse’.  Check out the squeamish trailer…

The Good, The Bad, and the Unrated…July 7

July 7, 2008

This week we see more than a few good games (didn’t game companies get the memo that summer is drought time?) with the release of Unreal Tournament 3 for Xbox 360 (sans the ability to add mods like the PS3 version) and the PC port of Dante’s latest adventures with Devil May Cry 4. Mandatory plug: DMC4 review by yours truly. Tsk, tsk…shameless.

Besides that, Civilization Revolution also drops which marks the first Civ game Sid Meier’s actively programmed for since he created the original in 1991. You can try out the turn-based strategy game for yourself by downloading the demo readily available on PSN and Xbox Live.

Check out the full list of games dropping this week after the break…
