Kotaku recently posted a disturbing photograph of a Space Invaders game where the aliens are attack the twin towers. All I can say is that this isn’t amusing, entertaining or funny in any way. Apparently the game was on display in hall #4 of the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. It was projected on a massive screen near the Space Invaders 30th anniversary display. I’m not sure who was responsible for this, but they should really be ashamed of themselves. Over 2,700 innocent people were killed on 9/11 in those towers and I’d assume people could find ways to remember them in a positive way, not poke fun at what happened. While I always respect people’s rights to artistic expression, I also respect the right to tell them that their work is out of line.

When I first heard that Space Invaders Extreme was coming to the PSP, I wasn’t excited at all.  Does the PSP really need more 2d shmup titles?  For the most part, the PSP homebrew community has me covered in the genre.  After playing the demo, I realized that this was actually a damn good game and probably one most PSP owners should pick up.  Unless you’re in an Asian arcade somewhere, it’s unlikely you’ll even play a recent Taito game, so it’s kind of cool to see them releasing titles again.  Space Invaders Extreme has the same style gameplay you have loved from all the other SI releases from the past, but this time the graphics have been boosted and the weapons and power-ups are a little more interesting. This certainly will not be the greatest PSP game out there, but it’s worth a look.
