The Last Guy’s top-down zombie arcade game is Google Earth meets Shaun of the Dead.  Zombie Conga Line Anyone?

The Earth is infested with several forms of zombies.  The population is scarce and you are asked to rescue the last remaining civilians in 14 cities.  Here’s where you’re asked to step in, and get them the hell out of danger.  *The Last Guy is a top-down, aerial view arcade game, in which your character is portrayed by a man with a blue suit and red cape.  Incorporating a similar view to that of Google Earth you’ll see real cities which gives the game a realistic feel.  Of course with the top building view, the only way to determine who’s in a building is by turning ‘night vision’ on.  Japan Studios thought this one out because with ‘night vision’ on, you can’t see the nearby zombies.  So you’ll have to toggle your views to succeed.  In short, your mission is to rescue a certain number of civilians within the allotted time limit.

If the above image reminds you of Forret Gump, it should.  It’s an aerial view of Wash., D.C.

The first level starts you off in Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.  You’re given 4 minutes to roundup 1000 people and deliver them safely into the “Escape Zone”.  Each city you are dropped off in, has zombies, items, and of course people to rescue.  The more civilians you bring to the “Escape Zone” at a time, the higher the bonus.  Of course there’s a catch!  The more civilians you have with you creates a long line (like follow the leader) which makes you more susceptible to the Zombies.  Once the Zombies get too close to you, they can either scare the civilians away or break your ‘Snake” like line both sending them screaming back into nearby shelters.  Oh yeah, and if a Zombie captures you, Game Over.

Item List

E = Energy
hE = High Energy
St = Stops Zombie Activity for limited time
Re = Warps you to nearest “Escape Zone”
Iv = Invisible to Zombies for limited time

The games’ music, and sounds let you know when time is almost up and when a zombie is near.  Strategically timed birds fly overhead to throw your visuals off.  The Japanese voice over’s add a creepy feel to the game during the game’s menu screen.

Walk this way guys…

The Good Stuff:

- Highly addictive arcade game
- An aerial view of 14 detailed cities
- Ascending Challenged Cities
- Quick, pick up and play game
- Rumble

The Bad Stuff:

- No Multi-player
- Lack of PS3 Trophies

The Neutral:

- Caped Crusader as main character

In the End…

I know the description of the game sounds simple.  It first reminded me of the classic cell phone game ‘Snake’.  If it sounds easy, then that means I did a good job not confusing the objective of the game, but let me warn you.  *The Last Guy is part arcade-action, mixed in with some strategy.  Some cities allow you to gather up a horde of civilians and avoid zombies to get back to your “Escape Zone”, but other cities will require you to roundup smaller groups and use the “Re” to warp you back to the nearest “Escape Zone”.

Overall, it’s a fun quirky top-down game worth giving a shot.

For the price of $9.99, I’d say give *The Last Guy a home…

LittleBigPlanet’s appearance in E3 was a huge success. Will ‘SackBoy’ help increase Sony PlayStation 3 console sales?

The little guy known simply as ‘SackBoy’ in Sony’s upcoming video game, LittleBigPlanet, has a lot riding on his burlap shoulders.  It seems Sony is putting all their faith in the little guy, and with an official release date there’s no turning back.  That means no more delays.  This also means that this is Sony’s last chance to capture new PS3 gamers.  The First Person shooters have already chosen what system they prefer killing on.  The MMORPG guys have decided that PC’s are for them.  Portable device people love the on the go advantage.  I feel that Sony’s last target audience is the first time console owners of the Nintendo Wiii.  Everyone knows that the Wii’s lifespan is short lived, as we previously discussed.  So I say, strike while the iron’s hot.  Publish a game that sells a cute little zipper-stomach doll, and use bright colors and a simple game title name.

The buzz surrounding this game is how customizable it is.  LittleBigPlanet or ‘LBP’ for short, is a puzzle platformer game that combines the ability to jump, move, and grab objects. Players can use their abilities to shape and develop the highly manipulatable environment to build custom spaces either individually, collaboratively, and/or competitively. Levels focus on co-operative, physics-based gameplay, and players can use mechanisms such as cogs and blocks to build anything from small level parts to large, complex worlds. The game will also allow opportunities for players to acquire new skills and tools.

After all the delays, do you think LBP will be a successful PS3 game?  Do you think it will help sell PS3’s to new gamers?

I’ve been talking about how terrible Batman’s voice was in the Dark Knight for a while now and I’m glad to see that people out there are finally making parody clips about it. The following YouTube video is actually one guy playing 2 roles. He’s basically making a parody of the interrogation scene from the Dark Knight. It’s wonderful that others are seeing how moronic Bale’s gravelly voice was. Some may claim it was clever and realistic, but was the lisp and growl filled voice really necessary? Check out the following clip if you want a good laugh…

The newest ‘bad guy’ in Soul Calibur IV will be Algol. Plain and simple! Below is an excerpt from the Character Designer, Hideo Yoshi. SC in the past had some freaky looking guys, but the screens below show how intimidating Algol will be to face.

We aimed to make a character that is the “king” of an ultra ancient civilization and a character that obviously proves the setting of being the strongest character ever in SC series.

In 1985 there was a skew in Shigeru Miyamoto’s timeline. Instead of following his dream of video games, he turned to what made sense for him ‘clean clothes’. Enjoy Miyamoto’s ‘Alternate 1985′.

I first discovered this guy while I was in Orlando, FL during the World Baseball Classics. If other infomercials were as passionate as this guy they would surely see their sales increase. You gotta wait for some of his taglines; “White Porcelain”, “I Love Appliances” and of course “Wakkie Nu Nu”.

Snoop is finding ways to make sure every human knows who he is one way or another. The guy did a country song with twangs and all. For a California brother, it ain’t half-bad. Country’s been imitating for so long, it’s not like the genre has a clear sound anymore, which opens the way for people like Snoop Dog and Jessica Simpson to break in. Snoop is well on his way to country stardom. His wife is getting in on the action too, with her drunk driving arrest this past weekend. Go ahead Snoop. I ain’t mad at ya. Especially when you team up with Willie Nelson. Much better than Nelly’s team up with Tim McGraw. Listen to Snoop Dog and Willie Nelson right here: http://perezhilton.com/2008-06-18-this-is-not-a-joke-40.

I spend a good chunk of my free time watching random videos on YouTube.  This time I came across a video of some half-naked guy telling a strange story about the citrus industry, midgets, midget dating sites and such.  I watched it several times to see what the point of this video was, but I’m still clueless.  Who the hell is this Roy guy anyway?   We know he’s in the citrus industry and hunts ghosts, but I’m not sure if he even exists…

We talked about how motarded I felt the Wii Fit girl video was earlier. While checking out more YouTube videos I discovered the following gem. It’s also a goofy video, but it’s actually funny. To be a great YouTube video, something needs to be either funny, weird or a display of superior skill. This guy has no skill, but the video is certainly funny.
