[Updated] Buy Rock Band 2, Get First Game’s Songs Free

July 6, 2008

There’s been recent rumblings about what the final set list will be for Rock Band 2 but more interesting, at least for this writer, is what else the game will provide right out of the box.

IGN reports (via Kotaku) that when gamers take home and open up their shiny new Rock Band 2 game this fall, you’ll be able to download the first game’s complete set list…for FREE.

Gamestop might just get a sudden influx of Rock Band discs as Activision EA will be relieving the slight inconvenience of disc-swapping. Rocking out will suffer no delays.

[Edited: As our kind readers have pointed out, EA is the publisher of all things Rock Band and it’s developed by Harmonix who created Guitar Hero and its sequel. Our bad.]

Halo’s ‘Chill Out’ Remake Bound for Xbox Live — FREE

July 3, 2008

Bungie’s third Halo game has been regulated to second place in the Xbox 360 online space for a while now by a certain future-proof’ed Call of Duty, but it sure loves its fans.

In a move that Microsoft will likely see as a missed economic opportunity, the remake of the Chill Out map from the Halo 1 days, Cold Storage, will be available for FREE on July 7, according to Bungie.net.

Luke Smith also talks a bit about an interesting throwback wrench being thrown into Halo 3’s online game play on Bungie Day:

“Beginning on July 7, there will be a 48-hour long seven-player FFA playlist in Halo 3’s Matchmaking where you can turn the calendar back to 2001 and control l Rockets, Invis and Snipe.”

Deus Ex Hits GameTap Tomorrow, Play it for Free

June 4, 2008

Considered one of the best PC games of all time, Warren Spector’s (who works for Disney Interactive now) Deus Ex will be made available on GameTap for free play after an initial 15-second ad-gasm.

While a bit dated, the game warrants a play — it’s free! — as it was one of the first shooters to incorporate RPG elements into the gameplay. It’s not the most trigger-happy title, but its branching paths and cyperpunk story line should keep you well entertained. Deus Ex 3 is currently in development by Eidos Montreal so this should serve as a primer before that game sees the light of day.

Free Game Of The Week: Ziczac

June 4, 2008

When I’m looking for a break from hard-core games, I always head to the web to see what fun free game I can find.  Today I lucked out and discovered Ziczac, a simple yet entertaining freeware puzzler.  The game isn’t going to change your life or anything, but it’s certainly great free entertainment for a few hours.  Check out the description at Indie Games.

No Country for Free WiFi at McDonald’s

May 30, 2008

The dream is over. No more international Tetris DS battles. No more overseas races in Mario Kart DS. Or, at least at McDonalds anymore…you’re free to use your Internet Router at home for worldwide matches on the old Dual Screen (DS), of course.

Long gone are those lazy lunch breaks, though, where this writer has rejoiced in taking kids down worldwide in Planet Puzzle League as the deal between, internet provider, Wayport and, fast-food giant, McDonald’s has ended, according to Knowzy (via DS Fanboy). The free service has usually provided a reliable service for DS and laptop owners, alike, so it comes as bit of a downer but oh, well, that’s business for ya’.

Where is your guys’ next free WiFi hotspot? I know I’m heading to Denny’s next.

Contest Reminder: Win A Copy Of GTA IV (360) Here

March 30, 2008

Hey folks, Kezins here with the *OFFICIAL* announcement of our Grand Theft Auto IV giveaway! One lucky reader of our blog is going to be the proud owner of a brand-spankin’ new copy of GTA IV for Xbox 360. As usual, there are some rules you all have to follow to make sure this is a nice, clean giveaway. This contest is open to anyone who is not on our current staff list! You must be 18 years of age to be considered. Rules:

  • In order to submit a contest entry, readers simply need to comment on the blog fromMarch 26, 2008 until April 29th, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
  • Any comment on any article will be counted as an entry, so comment often! Make sure you use a working email address for the comment field! If we can’t contact you, the prize will automatically go to a second drawing.
  • Only legitimate comments will be counted towards the contest. So no “Cool” or “Fag” comments. We’re giving this thing away for free, so the least you can do is make a coherent sentence.
  • At the end of the contest, all of the comments will be tallied and be put in a huge sack. I personally will pass by the local drug store, where a bum on the corner will be tricked into picking out a comment, thinking there’s some yummy alcohol in the bag; Bum will pull out comment, winner will be chosen, and I shall thank the bum by throwing iced coffee at his bag of clothes. Just kidding. We will have a third party select a comment number at random.
  • Barring any more release delays by Rockstar, we will ship the game to the winner of our comment contest on April 29 (as soon as we contact the winner via email and receive a shipping address) to any location in the United States or Canada. The only exception to the shipping rule will be for any deployed soldiers who have a legitimate APO/FPO address we can send it to. As a combat veteran myself, I’d certainly not keep any of our soldiers out of the contest just because they are deployed.

Comment Contest: Win A Copy Of GTA IV (Xbox 360) Here!

March 26, 2008

[Using Random.org’s integer generator, a winner has been randomly selected.  All comments were counted as entries and the lucky winner is Allegra.  Allegra has been contacted and will be shipped the Special Edition Grand Theft Auto IV once we have proper shipping information.  I’d like to thank everyone who participated and we’re sad that we couldn’t give one away to everyone.  Don’t be too sad though.  We plan to continue with our random comment contest in the near future and already have a few possible prizes.  Stay tuned for more information on that!]
