Two photos have surfaced on EA’s website promoting FIFA 09. Both images feature Wayne Rooney aka “Shrek”. Wayne currently plays for Manchester United and he’s certainly one of the players you want on your team. He’s spent some time sidelined by injuries in the past couple of years, but he’s still one of the most talented young players in football.

Now that Virginia Tech edged past Georgia Tech, some are wondering if the Hokies have what it takes to make another run at an ACC title in football. VT has a history of starting seasons weak and finishing strong with championships, but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen this season.

Despite being out-gained 387-247 yards, the Hokies pulled off a 4th quarter victory against Georgia Tech 20-17. The deciding factor was more than likely the fact that the Yellowjackets turned over the ball 3 times and were perhaps a bit overrated going into the game.

Some think Virginia Tech (2-1) now has a chance of redemption this season, but I see quite a few games that could easily result in losses.  With a weak offensive line, inexperienced QB and sub-par receivers, things don’t look good.  Here are my predictions for the rest of the season.

  • @ North Carolina (L, 17-24)
  • @Nebraska (L, 14-21)
  • Western Kentucky (W, 28-7)
  • @ Boston College (W, 28-14)
  • @ Florida State (L, 14-28)
  • Maryland (W, 28-14)
  • @Miami (L, 14-24)
  • Duke (W, 35-17)
  • Virginia (L, 14-21)

Overall Record: 6-6

ACC Record: 4-4

I never thought I’d see the day where I thought a multi-platform game was better on the Wii than the Xbox 360 or Sony PS3, but that day has come. Although the game has a different title and has different features, I feel like it’s still something I needed to compare to the 360/PS3 version. I recently reviewed Madden NFL 09 for the Xbox 360 and felt it wasn’t the great game everyone was giving it credit for. My primary issues with the game was lag, the game freezing, game glitches and numerous problems with the AI.

European gamers will get the chance to check out ‘Table Football’ on the Wii tomorrow when it’s released. It’s a shame there’s no North American release scheduled at this time. Table football or foosball as we call it in the states is probably one of the greatest social games ever invented next to beer pong.

In the following video, John Madden talks about the history of the Madden franchise. One interesting comment towards the beginning is how it was their goal for the video game to look like the actual game on television and now the television guys want real football to look like the game. He also mentions how the game will either go up or down and how he believes they keep going up each season. Personally, I think Madden has been having some off years for the past 4-5 games, but it looks like they may have gotten it all together with 2009.

[ad#ad-1]

The NCAA Football franchise never sells the way Madden does, but it’s still a huge series.  I have always been partial to the little brother of Madden considering my love for college football.  We expected big things with the 2009 installment, but it seems there’s really not a lot to write home about.  Online Dynasty mode was surely welcomed and the ability to share custom roster files was a nice bonus.  Other than that, the game really doesn’t offer many improvements over NCAA 08. There are a few minor changes to the game that I’ll try to break down below.

Gameplay

Gameplay hasn’t changed a lot, but the offensive game is definitely more wide-open than ever.  This is great if you love offense and a step backward if you are a defensively minded player.  An unfortunate addition to the game is the ability of the home team to “ice” kickers.  This ability works entirely too well and really dilutes the realism of the game.  I suggest turning this option off in any game you play.  Another problem I noticed with the game is the fact that the AI simply does not work well at all, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.  AI controlled players will run the wrong direction and frequently miss easy tackles.  While the game certainly is slightly better than 08 in most areas, I expected more.  If you currently have NCAA 08, you may want to simply wait until NCAA 10 hits shelves to upgrade.

This isn’t breaking news, considering the information was leaked several days ago, but it’s now official that Brett Favre will be on the cover of Madden 09.  Considering he’s retired, there’s no chance of him getting injured due to making the cover.  It’s always possible Favre may come back, but unlikely. Brett certainly represents old school football and was a dying breed of QB.  It will be a long time before we see another player like him.

These are the first in-match action screenshots released for Football SuperStars, which has been a PC game on my radar for some time now.  Back in 2007, the game producers promised that the game would be “the most realistic football game there has ever been”.  It certainly looks like it’s headed that way.  The game is visually stunning and is really one of the most ambitious sports games in recent memory.  Football SuperStars is basically the first meta MMO title of it’s kind. From what I understand, you will be able to download the game for free as well.
