Hardware and Software Video Game Sales

Last month’s numbers are something we’ve been looking forward to here at Kezins. The biggest games started hitting stores and it’s a good indicator as to what we’ll likely be seeing in the years to come (read: sequels).

We weren’t aware of the kind of clout the Fable series carried, but now we are wide awake to this fact: people love them some Fable II! Disappointing to see the below-average SOCOM: Confrontation selling out the lovable, make-your-own-game, LittleBigPlanet, but there’s always next month.

Software Sales

1. Fable 2 (360) - 790,000
2. Wii Fit (Wii) - 487,000
3. Fallout 3 (360) - 375,000
4. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 290,000
5. Wii Play (Wii) - 282,000
6. Saints Row 2 (360) - 270,000
7. SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3) - 231,000
8. Little Big Planet (PS3) - 215,000
9. NBA 2K9 (360) - 202,000
10. Dead Space (360) - 193,000

September sales show that Microsoft’s move to become cheaper than Nintendo’s Wii last month was a much needed one. It wasn’t enough to push it past the Wii, but it did rank 3rd topping all of Sony’s hardware offerings.

1. Wii - 687,000
2. DS - 536,800
3. Xbox 360 - 347,200
4. PSP - 238,100
5. PS3 - 232,400
6. PS2 - 173,500

We all know that Microsoft has motion control games, Mii-like avatars and Wii-mote-like controllers up their sleeves. A new rumor has surfaced that the new Arcade bundle headed to shelves this fall will probably include motion controlers and mini-games that use the technology. For now, I’d set this rumor as questionable. Various game blogs have been throwing up motion control rumors for months and they usually turn out to be false. This time, the rumor came from Xbox 360 Fanboy.  They have been credible in the past with rumors, but this one is just worded a little funny.  According to the site, they got this rumor from ”a tip from a source close to Microsoft’s marketing department,”.  Believe it if you want, but there’s really not much behind this one.

The latest report by the NPD, which tracks video game sales in America, has come in and with it some interesting results.

One of the things speculated from last month’s sales numbers was that the console-selling boost GTA IV was supposed to provide Microsoft and Sony would happen this month, as Rockstar’s game arrived late in April.

This wasn’t so as the Xbox 360 and PS3 sold about the same this month, which lends some credibility to the prediction that the people who bought the game already had either system long beforehand. Wii, as its been doing since launch, reigns supreme…

Hardware Sales:

1. Wii - 675,100
2. DS - 452,600
3. PS3 - 208,700
4. Xbox 360 - 186,600
5. PSP - 182,300
6. PS2 - 132,700

Miz Calamity from GameGirl.com messaged me last night about an interesting contest they have going on, so I thought I’d share it with our readers. If you have never checked out their site, I suggest you do. Our industry certainly lacks mainstream gaming exposure from the female point of view and I’m hoping sites like this change the industry in the future. Check out the article for the contest HERE.

Do you think you are a fanboy or fangirl?
Do you collect, love, adore, play a certain system/game more than the others?
Are you borderline obsessed with Halo?
Will you fight to the death to defend your PS3?
Do you collect FF dolls action figures?
Prove it! We want your pictures proving what a fanboy you are!!!! Send them to tips4gamegirl@gmail.com and label your email ‘Fanboy’. Send entries in by April 13, 2008.
