Video Game Releases 10/6

This week was kind of lame in game releases so we admit, yes, we kind of forgot (oops!) about our weekly “drop” report. Please, don’t spear us — “Ice Age” reference.

For those of you playing on PC exclusively, Hell’s Highway should be fun and…well, some big basketball games coming out this week. Choose between NBA Live and NBA 2K9. Other than that, you’re better off saving those pennies you turned into cash at the coin machine for next week.

Full list of games dropping this week after the break… Continue reading »

For three weeks straight, Sony’s Playstation 3 loses to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in hardware sales.  Nintendo DS still tops all sales.

This is the first full month that the Xbox 360 prices were slashed*, thus reflecting the increase in sales.  In other, non surprising news, the Nintendo DS still is the overall leader of hardware sales.  Who needs more than one DS?  Let’s see if Nintendo’s announcement of the Nintendo DSi will slow down the DS sales.

• Nintendo DS - 57,847
• Wii - 26,314
• PSP - 25,671
• Xbox 360 - 11,291
• PlayStation 2 - 9,848
• PlayStation 3 - 8,275

*As of September 5th, the new prices are as follows:

Xbox 360 Arcade $199
Xbox 360 $299
Xbox 360 Elite $399

GTA Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS will feature a drug dealing mini-game and like clockwork, various organizations are already pissed off about that. Fortunately, the game should be rated “M” meaning that their arguments concerning the affect on children are mute and uncalled for.

According to Drugsline:

Anything using drug-dealing as entertainment is sending out the wrong message. Glamorisation doesn’t help our work trying to educate kids of the dangers of substance misuse.

Below is the first look at screens from Legacy Interactive’s upcoming live-action medical sim for the Nintendo DS called ‘Emergency Room: Real Life Rescues.  The game is scheduled for a Q1 2009 release and things are looking great so far.  Don’t expect lots of blood and gore though… It’s rated E for everyone.

Funny. Lately, breaking game news have avoided big name sites and are brought to light via forum dwellers. A prime example is NeoGaf, a glorified community post site, that has attracted the likes of Denis Dyack — as well as other developers — in defending their titles against the vocal minority.

Earlier today they brought us a few details about the next GTA game that is, surprisingly, coming out on the DS. Poster “botticus” lets us know of a few bullet points found in the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power: Continue reading »

We were once excited about Too Human but since we’ve heard so many “so-so” impressions of the game lately, we’ll be spending those sixty dollars elsewhere.

A good substitute would be Quest for Booty, which aims to give Ratchet & Clank fans a much-needed fix continuing the story immediately after last year’s furry-animal outing on PS3. Galaga Legions should be good, too, as it throws in the now familiar neon-techno coat of paint to the classic arcade game.

(The following scores were “aggregated-tive-ized” as of August 18, 2008 via Metacritic)

It looks like the only games brave enough to come out and play with reviewers pre-release this week are Bangai-O Spirits (DS) and Baseball Mogul 2009 (PC). That shouldn’t be taken as a knock, though, on the new Madden or Capcom’s 8-bit remake of Bionic Commando which saw Hitler’s head blowing up at the game’s end. Madden NFL 09 looks like its been shaping up nicely (the collector’s edition includes Madden ‘93 with updated rosters!) and the latter even has some people saying the pricing for it might be “too cheap.”

Gamers should take note on one game in particular this week: Fable II Pub Games. The game will be released on XBLA on Wednesday for 800 pts. ($10), but know that for a $5 pre-order on Fable II at your local games retailer lands you the game for FREE. Kezins just saved you five bucks! We give you permission to spend those extra points on new songs for Rock Band

The dream is over. No more international Tetris DS battles. No more overseas races in Mario Kart DS. Or, at least at McDonalds anymore…you’re free to use your Internet Router at home for worldwide matches on the old Dual Screen (DS), of course.

Long gone are those lazy lunch breaks, though, where this writer has rejoiced in taking kids down worldwide in Planet Puzzle League as the deal between, internet provider, Wayport and, fast-food giant, McDonald’s has ended, according to Knowzy (via DS Fanboy). The free service has usually provided a reliable service for DS and laptop owners, alike, so it comes as bit of a downer but oh, well, that’s business for ya’.

Where is your guys’ next free WiFi hotspot? I know I’m heading to Denny’s next.
