Hardware and Software Video Game Sales

Last month’s numbers are something we’ve been looking forward to here at Kezins. The biggest games started hitting stores and it’s a good indicator as to what we’ll likely be seeing in the years to come (read: sequels).

We weren’t aware of the kind of clout the Fable series carried, but now we are wide awake to this fact: people love them some Fable II! Disappointing to see the below-average SOCOM: Confrontation selling out the lovable, make-your-own-game, LittleBigPlanet, but there’s always next month.

Triple-A games are inbound this week and, most likely, the next few weeks up until Christmas time. Since the now-infamous “Kezins crash of 2008″ happened last week, we weren’t able to bring you our weekly comprehensive guide.

Not to worry! We piled it onto this week’s set of releases. Some good stuff awaits gamers’ 60+ dollars — Fallout 3, LittleBigPlanet, and World Tour are some of the big hitters. Have fun (and good luck!) picking out your must-haves from all the must-haves.

Gamestop Adventures, Dead Space, and More!

Boomp3.com (Run time: 9:16)

Jeremy and Carlos dabbled in some Gamestop stories and realized that it was one of THOSE Tuesdays. Yes, the boring ones. Still, they managed to do some rambling about a thing or two in gaming on today’s episode.

Bonus! - Weather Report 2. Now, with more Santa Ana winds!

Some people are saying Dead Space is the best thing since sliced bread. Others wonder if EA (Electronic Arts) could have possibly pulled off a survival-horror game that could stand on the same playing field with the Resident Evil & Silent Hill games. Let’s just say I am now wondering if the future Resident Evil and Silent Hill games can stand on the same playing field as Dead Space…

For all of you smart shoppers out there, Kezins brought word of a special deal tied to this week’s release of Saints Row 2 earlier. The game was confident enough to play with reviewers pre-release this week; getting favorable reviews across the board. If you’re hoping for some scares just in time for Halloween, you should look forward to Dead Space, as well, which made its way into the coveted “Good” reviews area.

If, for some reason, your interests veer past triple-A games, you’ll be interested to know that Blitz II, My Japanese Coach (cool!), and SOCOM: Confrontation also make an appearance. Oh, yeah, and Rock Revolution. *barf*

I haven’t been playing as many different games in 2008 as I did last year. In 2007, I made enough money from blogging to pay rent, child support, car insurance, buy clothes and food, and travel extensively. I was also working for the Virginia Tech Police Department in 2007 on the side, so the side full-time job gave me plenty of money to bank. On top of that, I was pulling in the G.I. Bill. Unfortunately my G.I. Bill ran out and I’m still a few semesters away from my BA. 2008 hasn’t been so kind. I haven’t made 1/10 of what I pulled in last year in blogging and I was unemployed for most of this year. I finally landed a full-time job this week (with a modest salary), but the blogging revenue simply isn’t there yet. Last year, I could buy any game or system on a whim, because I had extra cash always floating around. Things just aren’t so fortunate now, so I have to cut back on my gaming. I haven’t been receiving many games to review lately, but it looks like I’ll definitely be receiving Dead Space from Electronic Arts this week. You never know what I’ll end up receiving, but here’s my plans for now:

I just received word from EA that anyone who signs up for No Known Survivors will automatically get $5 off Dead Space (or any other EA game) at the EA Store.  There are also numerous contests going on right now.  They are currently giving away an Ultra Limited Edition of the game and a replica of Issac Clarke’s helmet to one grand prize winner.  10 other games will received the ULE as well.

In addition to all the excitement surrounding Dead Space, Chapter 2 of No Known Survivors is live and ready for people to check out.  We’re less than two weeks away from the launch of Dead Space and I am certainly looking forward to checking it out.  Head over to the EA Store if you are interested in finding out about the deals they are running.
