Although Microsoft has denied all rumors that Blu-ray may come to an Xbox 360 near you, Toshiba-Samsung Corp has been contracted to produce external Blu-ray drives for the 360.

It is no shock that Microsoft HAD to do something in order to compete with Sony’s Blu-ray disc storage capacity. They tried with HD-DVD and we all know how that failed, and Microsoft wasn’t going to jump on the “Sony Blu-ray wagon”. That was then, this is now.

…Young went off, stating that music quality has been brought down to the level of a “Fisher-Price toy.” Perhaps that toy was the iPod? He didn’t hold back about his feelings towards the portable, as well as iTunes, blaming all for decreasing the quality of today’s audio.

“Apple has taken a detour down the convenience highway,” Young told the Brainstorm audience after taking the stage for an interview with Time Inc. editor-in-chief John Huey. “Quality has taken a complete backseat—if it even gets in the car at all.”

Young recently announced that he will release all of his archives on Blu-ray discs later this year. He is hoping other musicians will soon follow suit.

The entire point that Neil Young is missing about the iPod is that it IS about convenience.  What other way can I carry around 5,000+ songs in my pocket?  The iPod hasn’t replaced my music collection.  It’s simply a way you can take your favorite songs anywhere.  He can talk all the smack he wants about putting his music on Blu-ray, but does Blu-ray have a player that will fit in my pocket?  I do understand how music quality is degraded when you import it to your iPod, but that’s not the point.  If you want thousands of songs on the go, it’s the best option out there…

Blu-Ray

It was only a short time ago that the HD format war ended. As we all know (I especially) that Blu-ray won due to it’s integration within the Playstation 3. With Blu-ray being the only true Full HD 1080p playback the sales can continue to rise. I know some people believe the upscaling DVD players are a good deal, but to watch No Country for Old Men on Blu-ray through 1080p the comparison is not there.

“According to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, Disney’s Blu-ray title ‘No Country for Old Men’ drew 9.8 percent of its total unit sales from Blu-ray during its first five days in stores.

The Blu-Ray version of Fox’s ‘Hitman was even more popular - 12.6 percent of total customers bought the Blu-ray version during its first five days on sale.

In comparison, sales of HD DVD titles, prior to the format being dropped, were rarely more than 2% or 3% of a title’s total disc sales.”

William Hung

“Not only is my background Blue, so is my disc”

Expect more Blu-ray players to be manufactured and at a cheaper price since there are non-gamers who would like a Blu-ray player without a PS3 attached to it. Call them crazy I say. For $399, you have yourself a PS3/Blu-ray player that updates itself through firmware available through the web. Oh yeah and with BD-Live.
