It’s not much of a confirmation or specific release date, but the above paragraph is what you see after registering for the free 20 songs Harmonix/EA/MTV/Whoever promised Rock Band 2 owners in the back of the game’s manual.

It gives you the option to suggest songs you’d want to download. We’d say root for some Kings of Leon, more Strokes, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur, Jr. and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. We think its a good idea. Yup.

Register here.

For those of us currently enjoying rockin’ out in Rock Band 2 on Xbox 360 (and everyone else in Rock Band 1) comes a bit of surprising news. AC/DC, to coincide with their latest album, Black Ice, are releasing the “AC/DC Rock Band Pack” for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii ($39.88) and PS2 ($29.88) on November 2 — November 16 on Wii.

We say surprising because it will only be available at Wal-Mart in-store with no option to download online. The other thing is that it’s pretty damn pricey — especially if you don’t like all of the songs on the disc. You’ll have the option to export into your hard drive, which is cool, but hopefully not at an expense. Will you guys be picking it up?

Full track listing after the break. Continue reading »

We decided to start a new segment on the site called “Word of the Day”. Our challenge to you is to find a way to use each word of the day to enhance your life. I’m a huge fan addict of Dictionary.com’s “Word of the Day” but we’ll be choosing terms that you are unlikely to find there. Today’s word of the day is “bitchassness” coined by P Diddy on Making The Band. I find that this particular word is appropriate for the gaming world as well. If you play a lot of online games, you certainly run into numerous people who fall into this term.

The term basically refers to negative actions towards others through words and expressions. If you think you are better than those around you, like to lie or are just a shady individual, you probably suffer from bitchassness.

If you have been wondering if we’ll ever see Led Zeppelin songs in a video game such as Rock Band or Guitar Hero, the answer is NEVER!  Apparently Activision and MTV have tried to get LZ, and Jimmy Page turns them down every time.  It’s unfortunate, but I certainly respect their right as artists to control their music.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Jimmy Page, and his bandmates have repeatedly turned down offers from both Activision and MTV to use their tunes in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero music games. The band isn’t “comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes.”  ”It ain’t about the money,” says Led Zep manager Peter Mensch.

More interesting info from the Wall Street Journal: These bands are all in talks to have content included in music games (either Rock Band or Guitar Hero):

  • Van Halen,
  • the Eagles,
  • Steely Dan
  • Guns N’ Roses

We kick off the continuation of Audiosurf Song of the Week-series with the Swedish, post-hardcore act, Cult of Luna. Today is the European release date (July 16 for America) for their fifth studio album, Eternal Kingdom, and so it seems fitting to recommend a song to surf along to, and let your mind and emotions just slip away…

The song “Dim” on their fourth effort, Somewhere Along the Highway, is perhaps their softest song to date, and is a journey well worth taking. A track off of the latest album has not been deciphered yet and approved Audiosurf material; it seems like the songs are not as fitting as they are on the other albums. Hit the break for more on Cult of Luna, song recommendations and similar artists. Continue reading »
