I am yet to be amazed how the PS2 continues to be a viable system even a generation after it was released. Here is some new art work from Persona 2 for those of you out there still using the PS2:

We thought we had seen all of the cheap Guitar Hero knockoffs but yet another one pops up.  This time it’s Guitar Praise for the PC.  Unlike other GH knockoffs, this one actually costs more than the real thing with the price tag of $99.95.  You can currently pick up Guitar Hero III (PC) with guitar for about $70.  I guess if you want to rock out with Jesus, you’ll be paying extra.

You can pre-order this game to make sure you get your copy in September from the company website. Here’s their description of the experience:

Grab the guitar and play along with top Christian bands! Shred those riffs or blast the bass…you add a unique sound to the solid Christian rock. But watch out: if you can’t keep up, the artists will take a break and stop the music. Crank it up and try again youll soon be rockin’ with the best while praising the Lord!  Order the second guitar and jam with a friend!

Here’s the playlist via Gizmodo (I haven’t heard of any of these people):

Halo fans may not be getting any new details on when the strategy-flavored Halo Wars will be hitting console-side outside of “early 2009,” but you can enjoy some new box art in the meantime.

There sure are a lot of people backing up the three Spartan characters present. Looks good enough to grab the attention of the casual gaming crowd, at least.

“What?! I can play with three Master Chiefs?”

There goes a few million copies sold right there. Does the box art sell it for you?

Witness Rialto, CA’s evolving art and music community in the embedded videos below. The documentary was filmed a couple of months ago by Electric Gentlephones’s bassist, Louie Recinos, and edited into a short documentary.

Vesuvius Records has been working hard to get little ol’ Rialto on the entertainment map, a town historically known for the now non-existent orange groves. We’re about an hour away from Los Angeles but local bands have come out to support their hometown, opting out of Hollywood’s “big time” allure and growing the scene where they’re actually from.

Check out some of the movement’s shakers and musicians below and let us know what you think!

Very little to get excited about this week but a couple gems that stick out like a sore thumb: Soulcalibur IV and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, the sequel to the game that made twin-stick shooting and neon all the rage with its debut on XBLA in 2005.

We got a chance to try out Soulcalibur 4 at Comic Con this past weekend and have placed our pre-orders well in advance already. This blogger took Yoda for a spin and found that beating his opponent was not the hardest of feats as the green goblin jumps around much like in Star Wars Episode II. Expect to tailor your strategy against him with plenty of low kicks and no grab moves.

Geometry Wars: RE2? Skip the demo and dip into your Microsoft Points fund to outright buy it. ’nuff said.

(The following scores were “aggregated-tive-ized” as of July 28, 2008 via Metacritic)

The Good…

  • Soulcalibur IV (360, PS3) - Metascore: 94 (PS3)

The Bad…

  • City Life 2008 Edition (PC) - Metascore: 66
  • Baseball Mogul 2009 (PC) - Metascore: 65
  • Art of Murder: FBI Confidential (PC) - Metascore: 51

The Unrated…

Xbox 360

  • Spectral Force 3
  • Summer Athletics
  • Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Wii

  • Summer Athletics
  • SNK Arcade Classics Volume I
  • MLB Power Pros 2008

PC

  • Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI
  • Everlight
  • Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm
  • Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games
  • Legend: Hand of God

PS2

  • Summer Athletics
  • MLB Power Pros 2008

For many years, video games have not been taken seriously as a form of art and entertainment.  I have a feeling that’s all going to drastically change in the near future.  Have video games gone beyond movies as a form of entertainment?  Stan Lee thinks so…

I’m not entirely sure what Ninjatown for the DS is all about, but they keep adding odd cute ninja photos to the net.  These guys might look “cute” but I’m sure they are still ruthless killers like the ninjas we love here at Kezins.  I posted the old trailer of the game below for your viewing pleasure.  The game will hit shelves in October.

“I don’t think the investors give a sh*t about our quality. They care about our earnings per share. They wait for it to happen. We had three years where we didn’t make our expectations. If I were an investor, I would wait and see. That’s fine with me.” - Electronic Art’s CEO, John Riccitiello

While some people may not believe Riccitiello’s statement, I certainly do.  It’s sad that video games have gotten so mainstream that quality may no longer be a primary concern for the companies.  I see the gaming industry becoming more and more like the Hollywood movie machine every day.

[Editor’s Note: Walking down the aisles of your favorite retailer you’ll see movies that you’ve never heard of. Even if you’d like to know how they fare no one cares enough to review them! That’s where “Movie Watch” comes in…oh, and we’ll try to cover movies on Xbox Live from time to time. Because if you’re gonna spend those confusing Microsoft points on something other than games, it better be worth it, right?]

“Batman - Gotham Knight” ditches the cheesy Saturday morning cartoon demeanor and goes for a much darker and, consequently, deeper story spread out in different anime-inspired episodes that serves as the middleman between “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight.” Is it worth the price of admission?
