Overclocked Remix decide to offer gamers “Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream”. The album features free fan arrangements of FF songs with over 45 tracks from 40 various artists, all based on the official FF VII soundtrack.  While fan-made albums are often terrible, this one is certainly worth the free download.  In many ways, it’s superior to the official product.

The styles include jazz, new age, techno, rock and classical. In other words, there’s something for everyone on Voices of the Lifestream.  If you love music and love Final Fantasy, there’s no reason not to download this!  You can download this album at FF7:VotL Torrent (2.32GB).

I’d like to thank Shawn of Gaming Today for discovering this gem.

Recent studies have shown that the majority of PS3 owners are over the age of 45. While this may lead some to believe that most PS3 gamers are over 45, that would be a false assumption. From talks I have had with various retailers, it appears that males over 45 are still buying the PS3 to watch movies on, not play games. I haven’t seen any specific studies breaking down what the age groups are playing on the PS3, I’d assume that the average PS3 gamer would probably fit into the 30-40 range. As an interesting side-note, the average Xbox 360 owner is 35-44 and the average Wii owner is 18-24. While some fanboys may still cling to the “which console is best” debate, it really does not matter at this point. Each system appeals to an entirely different demographic. All three consoles in this generation will be considered a success once it’s all said and done…

I had my heart set on publishing an extensive review of Wii Fit, but an injury using the product has put me on the sideline.  Strangely enough, I wasn’t working out excessively hard on the device.  My goal was to use the system for 30 minutes per day.  On the 11th day, during a low level step exercise routine, as I was placing my left foot on the Wii board, I heard a strange pop in the same area.  At first, my foot felt mostly numb, but the pain certainly followed.  To make sure I hadn’t broken anything, I headed to the VA hospital to get some x-rays done.  It turns out, I ended up straining a ligament in my foot, which was also accompanied by some bruising.  Fortunately, it’s only going to take 2-3 weeks to recover, but it has certainly left me with concerns playing Wii Fit.

Now that I am unable to release a full review in a timely manner, here’s what I can tell you:

Just like Wii Sports, don’t pay any attention to your Wii Fit Age.  My age ranged from anywhere between 22 and 54 in only 11 days.  The test really measures your balance more than anything else.

Yoga Poses, Muscle Workouts, Aerobic Exercises, and Balance Games are the four types of activities you can use.  One area that Wii Fit totally excels in is getting users to be conscious of their posture and balance.

  • For the most part, the Yoga poses are completely useless.  You’re really better off doing an actual Yoga session from a program like Namaste Yoga on Fit TV.  If you get the channel and have a DVR, you are in business.  The problem with Wii Yoga is that it’s just too simple.  While doing one pose at a time for a couple minutes can be slightly beneficial, an actual structured Yoga program works better.  It’s just a simple fact that Yoga in 1 or 2 minute bursts really doesn’t help you the way a 20 minute non-stop program will.
  • The muscle workouts are actually not too bad on Wii Fit.  I did feel like the muscle workouts started on way too easy of a level, but things pick up as you advance in the game.
  • The aerobic activities on Wii Fit are really good and well-paced, but I might advise against taking part in the running activities.  Running in place can actually be more stressful on your body than actually running outside.  You also need to be careful if you have hard floors like I do.  These can be rough on your feet if you are not accustomed to working out barefoot.
  • Balance games are probably the most enjoyable experience.  While you’re not getting as much exercise value, it’s definitely where you are going to have most of your fun with Wii Fit.

In an age where video game blogging can be done anywhere, are we effected by the high gas crisis? Technology has improved, so the old school way of driving to work, 5 days a week, should be a thing of the past. Well it looks like Ohio’s Kent State University, has proposed the idea to 94 employees and 78 have taken them on it.

“By allowing employees to work four 10-hour days it will save them 20 percent on their commute costs and ease the financial pinch of filling up their cars,” said Oakland County, Michigan, executive L. Brooks Patterson, who last week proposed the compressed week for county workers.”

Pteroglider “simply was a bad game,” says the title’s developer, Codeminion.

In this day and age, with millions of dollars funneled into gaming regularly, its unlikely that a developer will bash its own game and risk commercial failure. Pteroglider was a game released in 2004 and sold to a tune of 32 WHOLE copies worldwide, according to Codeminion.

The developer goes into detail about balancing issues, relying on high specs, and poor level design. Regardless, its refreshing to see game companies criticize their own products and, in the case of Codeminion, learning from their mistakes. Hit the link below to get the game (its free!) and find out how bad the game really was.

We all knew Age of Conan would be popular and apparently the Collector’s Edition of the game has already completely sold out. It looks like they have already sold a grand total of 700,000 copies (all editions included) that will ship on day one.

Durham, USA – May 19, 2008 – Funcom is proud to announce that the Collector’s Edition of Age of Conan is now completely sold out in all markets. The exclusive edition was announced in January, and has since topped retail charts at numerous retailers. In some markets, the Collector’s Edition has been sold out for weeks, and as a result additional boxes were made. These are also sold out, and the total print run stands at 111,000 units. Lucky customers may still find some copies on retail shelves, but no re-orders are available….

I didn’t realize strip poker games were still popular, but obviously I was wrong. Red Lips Games has released two screens from their new game ‘Western Strip Poker’. The game is available via digital download from the Red Lips Games site. The game is available for Windows or Mac. Western Strip Poker is a new remake of the classic computer poker games designed in an old style “wild west era”. Two screens have recently surfaced from the game and are located below. For those of you expecting nude screens, you have to purchase the game and prove your age to see that.
