Our partners in crime at R3Match just finished recording their podcast show #2 last night featuring our own Juan Perez and Carlos Macias. Carlos writes for R3Match in addition to his work here on Kezins. In this edition, C4 (the host) made things work despite the fact we were having audio issues.

If you want to find out what games the guys are currently playing, definitely give the podcast a listen. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions below as well and we’ll make things happen. If tournaments and ladders are your thing, definitely pay R3 a visit. You will not regret it. Click on the link for the podcast below!

The NCAA Football franchise never sells the way Madden does, but it’s still a huge series.  I have always been partial to the little brother of Madden considering my love for college football.  We expected big things with the 2009 installment, but it seems there’s really not a lot to write home about.  Online Dynasty mode was surely welcomed and the ability to share custom roster files was a nice bonus.  Other than that, the game really doesn’t offer many improvements over NCAA 08. There are a few minor changes to the game that I’ll try to break down below.

Gameplay

Gameplay hasn’t changed a lot, but the offensive game is definitely more wide-open than ever.  This is great if you love offense and a step backward if you are a defensively minded player.  An unfortunate addition to the game is the ability of the home team to “ice” kickers.  This ability works entirely too well and really dilutes the realism of the game.  I suggest turning this option off in any game you play.  Another problem I noticed with the game is the fact that the AI simply does not work well at all, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.  AI controlled players will run the wrong direction and frequently miss easy tackles.  While the game certainly is slightly better than 08 in most areas, I expected more.  If you currently have NCAA 08, you may want to simply wait until NCAA 10 hits shelves to upgrade.

Tomorrow’s PS3 Update will include the addition of trophies.  This will basically be Sony’s version of Microsoft Achievements.  While I know many people are excited about this, I could honestly care less.  It’s a cheap marketing ploy just like the system Microsoft has in place.  If you think gamerscore and achievements mean a lot, you probably have an inflated gaming ego anyway.  It has been my opinion for a long time that achievements actually tend to ruin the fun in games, particularly online achievements.  Many gamers are inclined to change the way they play just to obtain these fake credentials.  The simple fact is that achievements and trophies are designed to get players to buy more games and play the games they have longer than they normally would.  Some developers are also inclined to include easily obtained achievements to sell a game that normally wouldn’t sell at all…

Battling knee problems, has not stopped this ‘Tiger’ from roaring through 91 holes and clinch a victory at the US Open. His will showed how strong and competitive someone can be when they set a goal. Which is the reason why I plan to pick up Tiger Woods ‘09. One of the new features beside better online multiplayer via EA SPORTS™ GamerNet, is the addition of Tiger Woods’ performance coach, Hank Haney.

I’ve seen the above video several times, but decided to go ahead and post it since we didn’t have it here on Kezins. In addition to video game news, we like to throw in anything odd we can find on the web concerning Asian culture. If you are familiar with Calbee, you already know they always have some seriously wacky commercials.

Being probably the biggest proponent of Rock Band on staff here at Kezins, the Rock Band Stage Kit you see to your right is a necessary addition to the rock extravaganza that goes on at the Macias (Mah-SEE-Ahs, Juan!) household regularly.

Ok, to be honest, its not entirely necessary and simply based on the sticker shock of $99.99 at GameStop (due August 15) it lends itself to “crazy luxury” territory, but if it gets you that much closer to feeling like that ultimate rock star you truly are…why not dip into it? Right?

“SAINTS OF LOS ANGELES” FROM UPCOMING MÖTLEY CRÜE ALBUM AVAILABLE THROUGH ROCK BAND BEGINNING APRIL 15 ON XBL AND APRIL 17 ON PSN.

In a new turn of events, Harmonix and MTV Games announced today that Mötley Crüe will be the first group to release a brand-new song as a playable track in the innovative ROCK BAND game. The highly anticipated new track, “Saints of Los Angeles,” released on Mötley Records, will be available for download for $0.99 beginning on April 15th via Xbox Live Marketplace (80 Microsoft Points) and on April 17th via the PLAYSTATION®Store.

The positive revenue from video games has caught up to the rest of the media world. If this move becomes a success, we should continue to see these kind of exclusive gaming releases.

“With the addition of this track to the Rock Band library, there are now more than 80 tracks available for download in addition to the 58 tracks in the original game. In three months since its release, gamers have purchased more than 6 million downloadable songs for Rock Band since its launch on November 20, 2007.”
