The rumors will finally subside after today’s acquisition of 1UP by the new parent company UGO Entertainment and Hearst Corp.

With many company’s merging to stay afloat in this current recession, many who thought that video games were recession proof better think again.  Today, 1UP and family (video game blogs) will now be part of a new entertainment network.  I wish everyone well at 1UP and hope this takeover is anything but hostile.  The below was taken from 1UP.com.

UGO Entertainment and parent Hearst Corporation have acquired 1UP and its associated sites GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com, and GameTab.com. 1UP and its sites now join UGO’s network of gaming properties that will reach over 40 million monthly unique visitors. UGO and 1UP representatives commented on the deal:

“Since we started UGO 11 years ago, we have served the gamer community and built a world-class online publishing platform,” said J Moses, CEO of UGO Entertainment. “The acquisition of 1UP, with its authentic voice, tenured editorial personalities and bustling user community, allows us to expand our base of quality content and represents a major step forward in UGO’s mission to become the leader in the games space.”

“We are extremely excited to join the UGO team,” said Sam Kennedy, editorial director and creator of 1UP. “Relying on UGO?s publishing platform will allow us to focus on what we do best?creating great content and ‘owning the conversation’ among gamers through our unique, authentic and definitive voice and community.”

Rockstar Leeds Tells 1up All About It…

Continuing with their great month-long look at the “Games of 2009,” 1up caught up with Rockstar Leeds and interviewed Gordon Hall about the scope, art style, “more arcadey experience” and other interesting tidbits concerning Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS.

In reply to the DS’s limited hardware specs and the game’s scope, Hall said the following:

“Everything we created for this game came, first and foremost, from a desire to make a really playable GTA experience on this hardware,” Hall told 1up.com. “If we’d built the game around a preconceived notion of the limiting nature of DS development, we wouldn’t have created the living world this game became.”

Make sure to visit 1up’s preview for the full interview and check out the other exclusive previews they have on tap for December.

Some people are saying Dead Space is the best thing since sliced bread. Others wonder if EA (Electronic Arts) could have possibly pulled off a survival-horror game that could stand on the same playing field with the Resident Evil & Silent Hill games. Let’s just say I am now wondering if the future Resident Evil and Silent Hill games can stand on the same playing field as Dead Space…
