For all of you smart shoppers out there, Kezins brought word of a special deal tied to this week’s release of Saints Row 2 earlier. The game was confident enough to play with reviewers pre-release this week; getting favorable reviews across the board. If you’re hoping for some scares just in time for Halloween, you should look forward to Dead Space, as well, which made its way into the coveted “Good” reviews area.

In 2007, I made enough money from blogging to pay rent, child support, car insurance, buy clothes and food, and travel extensively. I was also working for the Virginia Tech Police Department in 2007 on the side, so the side full-time job gave me plenty of money to bank. On top of that, I was pulling in the G.I. Bill. Unfortunately my G.I. Bill ran out and I’m still a few semesters away from my BA. 2008 hasn’t been so kind. I haven’t made 1/10 of what I pulled in last year in blogging and I was unemployed for most of this year. I finally landed a full-time job this week (with a modest salary), but the blogging revenue simply isn’t there yet. Last year, I could buy any game or system on a whim, because I had extra cash always floating around. Things just aren’t so fortunate now, so I have to cut back on my gaming. I haven’t been receiving many games to review lately, but it looks like I’ll definitely be receiving Dead Space from Electronic Arts this week. You never know what I’ll end up receiving, but here’s my plans for now:

Some gamers will be unable to take advantage of the “New Xbox Experience” which will require 128MB of empty storage space. I assume the only people in this category are those who purchased a 360 without a hard drive. Why anyone would do that is beyond me anyway.

According to Jason Townsend-Rogers of Gamertell, Microsoft is working on a way to fix this problem. He assumed this could possibly mean an external USB drive or free memory cards for certain 360 owners. I find that hard to believe. Unless Microsoft can find a way to make money with something, they aren’t going to pass out any freebies. While I usually take a stance against Microsoft in matters like this, I actually think people without a hard drive should be left to deal with it on their own. In a strange way, I’d rather not have the new “experience” but those of us with hard drives and internet connections will have no choice on the matter. We’re going to the new Wii-vatar-like system. I think it’s unfortunate we’ll have to scroll sideways through avatars of our friends instead of just scrolling down an actual list.

Agent U.S.A. made its debut on the Commodore 64 in 1984!

There are few games I can tell you I remember playing when I was a kid. Thanks to my older brother, Agent U.S.A. was one of them. I never understood how crystals regenerated, nor why you had to collect them. I guess this was Scholastic’s way of using it as credit. 1984 was not the home video market it is today, but we had these “educational” games that really made you scratch your little brain. When Agent U.S.A. came out I was 4, so to know how the train system worked was beyond my comprehension. Actually, I’m 27 now and … ahh forget it.

PlayStation 3 Demos are great.  Heck, they saved me from purchasing some iffey’s and helped me decide which game is worth picking up.  One problem with demos… they take up too much space on my 60gb PS3!  I’ve been very careful over the past 3 months, deleting old demos I’ve liked but had to make room for new ones.  With the price of hard drives dropping, this decision is a no brainer.  Demos and now some newer games will require me to expand my PS3 storage.  (Soul Calibur IV offers better load times if you install it on your PS3).

While surfing reddit, I came across a submission titled “Man being jailed for MANGA. [NON-LINKJACKED]” which was submitted by “masta“. After having a run-in with “masta” and his team who I believe run a mass up-vote/down-vote operation (very similar to the shady “DIgg” teams we all love to hate on Digg.com), I tend to ignore anything this guy posts. For some reason, the title sounded interesting. I was wondering how someone could possibly be on trial for simply having Manga. Who doesn’t have a little Manga lying around?

After reading the article linked to the reddit submission, it became very clear to me that the title on reddit and on the article were extremely misleading. The article’s title is “CBLDF Serves As Consultant in PROTECT Act Manga Case”.  So far, everything I have seen on the internet concerning the case either does not mention that this is a child porn case or they don’t mention any specifics until you are a ways into the article. The first sentence of the article:

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has signed on as a special consultant to the defense of Chistopher Handley, an Iowa collector who faces up to 20 years in prison for possession of manga.

I’ll be looking into this case a little more, but he’s certainly not on trial for having Manga in his house.  This guy had manga that the government claims was obscene.  If you are interested in the story, definitely check out the via link below but don’t read too much into it.  There aren’t enough facts shown in the article for anyone to have a legitimate opinion.  Right now, I am left wondering if his rights were violated or if he’s a scum bag who liked reading animated child porn.
