R3match Radio Podcast: Show 3 - 8/28/08
August 29, 2008
Surprised by our own persistence and dedication to keeping a podcast up and running on a weekly basis, we bring you Show 3 of “R3match Radio.”
The word from the site:
After ONE show co-hostin’ with Jason and Carlos last week, Juan took a quick vacation out…somewhere in the East Coast. But the show must go on and the super-duo brought it this week with some Mercenaries 2 talk, Xbox 360 motion-control rumor-mongering, as well as “Red Ring of Death” reminiscing.
Pictorial Discussion: Halo Wars Box Art
We threw in the following song, from our favorite ad at the moment, for some added affect:
‘Mercenaries 2′ Ad Lyrics
Oh, nooo…
Oh, nooo…
Oh, nooo…Yo, yo, yo.
Oh, no, you didn’t,
Sucka try to play me,
But you never paid me,
Never,Oh, no, you didn’t,
Payback is a-comin’,
You will be runnin’ for-e-ver,Oh, no, you didn’t,
Until I get my vengeance,
I will never end this may-hem,Oh, no, you didn’t,
I’m a mercenary,
You ain’t got a prayer,
You owe meeee

Lara Croft’s Evolutionary Spreads
August 26, 2008
The real-life models who’ve embodied Lara Croft over the years have never disappointed, giving video game fans plenty of beautiful eye candy — whether it be in video game form, advertising, and…Angelina Jolie.
Unfortunately, her video game form hasn’t always been as nicely, umm, shaped. Go Nintendo found an interesting collage of her evolutionary process from blocky, first iconic female game protagonist, to the much hotter, and looser (as in well animated), model in Tomb Raider: Underworld:
Talk about a purely cosmetic, but entirely necessary, upgrade!
The Good, The Bad, and the Unrated…August 25
August 25, 2008
Wednesday marks the long-awaited launch of the cutesy, but deadly, Castle Crashers which adds some salt to the wound that is the Xbox 360 void caused by the “red ring of death.” Oh, how this writer wishes he could spend all those 1500 pennies ($15, 1200 Microsoft Points) on The Behemoth’s latest romp this week…might have to dip into some PS3-playable games, instead.
For those of you wondering…yes, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam and Spy Fox are real game characters in “real” $20-still-too-expensive games for the trash dump that is the Nintendo Wii. We mean publishers use it as a dumping ground, not that it’s an actual dump…or is it?

Sony Announces ‘PSP 3000′
August 20, 2008
The rumors about the PSP 3000 being released soon are now no longer rumors. Sony officially announced the PSP 3000 at their press conference at Leipzig. The system will have a built-in microphone, an enhanced LCD screen and will be the same size as the PSP 2000. It looks like the system will be launched on October 15 in PAL areas and will cost an estimated $292. While the system looks sweet, I think I’ll wait for the price to come down a bit before I upgrade…

The Good, The Bad, and the Unrated…August 18
August 18, 2008

We were once excited about Too Human but since we’ve heard so many “so-so” impressions of the game lately, we’ll be spending those sixty dollars elsewhere.
A good substitute would be Quest for Booty, which aims to give Ratchet & Clank fans a much-needed fix continuing the story immediately after last year’s furry-animal outing on PS3. Galaga Legions should be good, too, as it throws in the now familiar neon-techno coat of paint to the classic arcade game.

‘Colour Cross’ Screens (Nintendo DS)
August 14, 2008
Some may think that portable gaming already has enough puzzle games, but I believe there’s certainly room for ‘Colour Cross’, the paint-by-numbers style puzzle-strategy game for the Nintendo DS. The game by Rising Star will include 150 puzzles and should keep any casual gamer happy for many hours. The game should be on shelves in November. I have yet to see any gameplay footage, but I’m sure it’s out there somewhere. Feel free to drop a link in comments below if you know where to find it. New screens were recently sent out and we have posted them below:
Overlord II, First Impressions
August 14, 2008
Codemasters® announces blockbuster Overlord sequel for the PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PC, plus exclusive extensions for Wii and Nintendo DS
The sequel to Overlord, Overlord II comes to the Wii, DS, and PS3 & X360. Notice the ampersand? That’s because the PS3 & X360 will be the same version of Overlord II. While the Wii will be called Overlord Dark Legion, featuring minion control through Wii Remote movement. And the DS version will be called Overlord Minions, a dedicated puzzle action title, for Nintendo DS.

“Epic battles, all new Minion play mechanics, a stunningly detailed new visuals and a fresh theme – Overlord II’s really packing a punch,” says Lennart Sas, director and Overlord lead at Triumph Studios. “We’re really excited about shifting the world to a new era where a Roman-inspired Empire rises as the arch-enemy of the Overlord, which leads to an epic clash between the regimented forces of a sprawling state and the faster, harder, more manic minion horde. It’s also great to see the series reaching new formats. The creativity being packed into the design for Overlord Dark Legend on Wii and Overlord Minions on Nintendo DS make great use of the platforms’ unique features and are perfect extensions to the Overlord series.”

‘GTS World Racing’ on iPhone
August 11, 2008
Thought gaming on the iPhone was a joke? Check out the following video of ‘GTS World Racing’ and it may change your mind. While I don’t think the iPhone will take much business away from the Sony PSP or Nintendo DS, it’s certainly going to take some. The quality of gameplay and graphics really surprised me with this title. I am so accustomed to crappy mobile games over the years, but it looks like the iPhone has really set a new standard…
