Penny Arcade Adventures 2 (October 29, 2008)

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode 2 is available next week on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. 6-10 hours of play for $15 isn’t too shabby of a deal. The first game was actually pretty good and Episode 2 includes some improvements. Next week, the XBLA is looking weak as usual, so this is something I’ll more than likely pay for, unless Penny Arcade wants to supply us with a download code (hint to PA).

Hey everyone. We’re currently having major hosting issues and wanted to apologize for the fact that we’ve been offline for several days. It took us nearly three days to get the site back up. For now, we are looking into some new options and will hopefully get things rolling in the near future. We’d like to thank everyone for sticking with us. It may take a few more days, but we’ll have everything in place soon.

Some days, we post a lot of stories and it’s very easy to lose track of what’s happening. If you’d like to keep up with all of our stories, the easiest way is to utilize our RSS option. Just click on the graphic below and you are set. Hopefully, you’re using Firefox which is probably the best browser to use when managing RSS feeds.

Some gamers will be unable to take advantage of the “New Xbox Experience” which will require 128MB of empty storage space. I assume the only people in this category are those who purchased a 360 without a hard drive. Why anyone would do that is beyond me anyway.

According to Jason Townsend-Rogers of Gamertell, Microsoft is working on a way to fix this problem. He assumed this could possibly mean an external USB drive or free memory cards for certain 360 owners. I find that hard to believe. Unless Microsoft can find a way to make money with something, they aren’t going to pass out any freebies. While I usually take a stance against Microsoft in matters like this, I actually think people without a hard drive should be left to deal with it on their own. In a strange way, I’d rather not have the new “experience” but those of us with hard drives and internet connections will have no choice on the matter. We’re going to the new Wii-vatar-like system. I think it’s unfortunate we’ll have to scroll sideways through avatars of our friends instead of just scrolling down an actual list.

We decided that our “about” section doesn’t really let our readers know enough about us.  To solve this, we decided to come up with a collection of questions and select 10 for each of us to answer.  Hopefully this will let you guys get to know us a little better.  Unlike corporate sites, we’re down to earth and basically regular gamers like all of you.  Some of the questions are game related and others cover categories outside the realm of games.

The first set of 10 questions went to myself.  Hopefully we’ll get Carlos and Juan covered later in the week.

The fast-paced, futuristic racer makes us wish real flying were this cool! WipEout HD has something in it’s back pocket… 1080p and 5.1 Dolby Digital. F-Zero-esque?

I seriously thought Techno Music went out with Z Cavaricci’s. Apparently not if it’s 5.1 Dolby Digital Techno Music. And the pixels, ohh the pixels. WipEout HD is beautiful. The quality of this game blows my mind for a PSN title. Online challenges and Campaign mode are both entertaining. Heck, you can even upload your own tracks and race listening to “Chocolate Rain”. Have to admit, I never played any previous versions of WipEout before. Maybe a bit of WipEout 64, but it was at a friends house and I had Peanut Butter all over my hands so I gave up the controller after the first turn. When I downloaded WipEout HD from the PSN, I had no idea what to expect. Beside it being a futuristic racing game… wiseguy.

This video below was submitted to us, and we absolutley love it.  Team Fortress 2 is a great game, and with 2-Fort being carried over from the original there’s nothing like seeing it upgraded to the most well known graphics.  2D Atari-esque graphics win me over any day of the week.  The game is called Gang Garrison 2 and you can actually play this gem here.

Gaming consoles, PC’s or Cell phones, 99% of Boys and 94% of Girls play Video Game on a regular basis.

A recent study, conducted by Pew Internet & American Life Project, has found that 99 percent of boys and 94 percent of girls play video games on a regular basis. Half of the 1,102 kids, ages 12 to 17, polled had played one within the last 24 hours.

So I guess the good old days of playing tag is really long gone.  Teens obviously represent a good portion of the gaming industries clientelle.  This comes to no surprise to anyone who plays online video games such as Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4.  The games are pouring with young voices and with potty mouths nonetheless.  The primary finding based on 1,102 includes 12-17 year olds.

Within the same study, half the boys surveyed listed a game rated by the industry’s system as “mature” as one of their favorites.  I’ve always said, you can put any rating system you want on a game.  Kids will play them.  Heck, I did!

Is gaming a social or anti-social activity?
