Hardware and Software Video Game Sales

Last month’s numbers are something we’ve been looking forward to here at Kezins. The biggest games started hitting stores and it’s a good indicator as to what we’ll likely be seeing in the years to come (read: sequels).

We weren’t aware of the kind of clout the Fable series carried, but now we are wide awake to this fact: people love them some Fable II! Disappointing to see the below-average SOCOM: Confrontation selling out the lovable, make-your-own-game, LittleBigPlanet, but there’s always next month.

Software Sales

1. Fable 2 (360) - 790,000
2. Wii Fit (Wii) - 487,000
3. Fallout 3 (360) - 375,000
4. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 290,000
5. Wii Play (Wii) - 282,000
6. Saints Row 2 (360) - 270,000
7. SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3) - 231,000
8. Little Big Planet (PS3) - 215,000
9. NBA 2K9 (360) - 202,000
10. Dead Space (360) - 193,000

Hit the jump for console sales…

This month proves that not even a cheaper Xbox 360 (by $50) can take the 800-pound gorilla that is the Wii, but it did move up Microsoft’s consoles sales by a few percents. Sony product? Well, it red lined a bit.

Hardware Sales

1. Wii - 803,000
2. Nintendo DS - 491,000
3. Xbox 360 - 371,000
4. PlayStation Portable - 193,000
5. PlayStation 3 - 190,000
6. PlayStation 2 - 136,000

I don’t understand why people keep touting Little Big Planet like it is the biggest thing since sliced bread……I have no interest to play this game whatsoever. Maybe it is the lack of creative artsy fartsyness in me but it honestly looks like like you have to work creating levels before you can play them and that just isn’t fun to me.

    Perfectly understandable…I can see how
people would look at it and say “wtf?! I
have to make my own levels?”

In all fairness, it’s just a part of the over-
all game and its just as fun to simply
play through the creative levels peo-
ple are creating — whether you play
them in co-op or by yourself.

hmmm…i dont know…wasn’t fable 2 released 6 days sooner than L.B.P….i would think that would effect the numbers no?…..well….anyways!!…. Little Big Planet is actually a pretty fun game its not mandatory for you to create a level but its always nice to have that option in a game like that…so…yeah…if..its taken as entertainment…then…take it as entertainment….

The LBP appeal has to do with people wanting something different. I don’t see LBP being a game that a majority of gamers would enjoy. I think it’s fun, creative and unique, but not even close to being one of my favorite games of 2008.

As far as it being released a week after F2, I don’t think that would make a huge difference in numbers. The way things are these days, games will sell quickly and usually within a week of launch.

@Kezins: True, true. Games usually make most of
their sales during the first week out…but yes, LBP
was out only a few days in October.
