“I have a bad feeling about this…”
That was the first thought when I first heard about the hack that allows you to play DVDs on the Nintendo Wii. Prior to the discovery of this program, the only way to atch DVDs on your Wii was if you had one with a mod chip that was hacked. I already had the Wii Homebrew Channel installed on my system, but was never interested in using the game system to watch movies anyway.
This all changed over the weekend when my DVD player broke after 6 years of heavy use. I didn’t want to use my 360 as a movie player, so going the Wii route with DVDX seemed like a quick fix. While it only takes a few minutes to get things rolling, this is certainly not a viable option for anyone who really likes movies. The program loads DVDs extremely slow and some movies including Star Wars didn’t work well at all. With Star Wars, I was only able to get to the title menu and it would freeze every time. Other movies worked “ok” but were still slow loading and sometimes felt choppy at points in the film. The bottom line is that this is still not a quality option to watch movies on your Wii. I’m headed out Monday to just pick up a simple DVD player replacements which should be the best option in the end. What’s upsetting about all this is that the Wii obviously has the ability to watch DVDs but Nintendo failed to give us the option.
