One of the cool aspects of Soulcalibur IV is the critical finish moves. Unfortunately, it’s kind of hard figuring out how exactly to use the damn systems. I’ve been playing SC IV for a while now and finally pulled off my first critical finish. It wasn’t as hard as I was making it out to be. Here’s the steps you’ll need to take:
- Wait for your opponent’s “soul gauge” to flash red.
- Engage them with a strong attack. If you land a strong attack while your enemy is blocking or execute a “guard impact” when they are attacking you, you have just completed what’s called a “soul crush”.
- For a very short moment, your opponent will flash red (their bar will be flashing red and their character will flash red). Tap the Left Button immediately and if you were quick enough, the fight will be over as you destroy them with a critical finish. Just make sure you tap it quickly, because there’s not much room for error.
That’s really all there is to critical finishes. It took me some time to figure that out on my own. At first, I was trying to tap the LB just when their meter was flashing red and nothing would happen. Perform 100 critical finishes during your time with SC IV and it’s worth 30 Gamerscore.

boohoo, no trophy support for the PS3… YET!
I’ll have to wait and play when trophy support comes out, if not I’ll have to play the whole thing all over again. Why am I making that sound like a bad thing? Rhetorical question!

who cares about trophy support? I wish they would get rid of achievements and trophies. We should be playing for scores, not gay trophies.
