For whatever reason, GameDaily has decided to bash GTA IV and claim that they aren’t going to play the game anymore. Here are their reasons:

1. Hanging out with people blows
2. Our games still freeze
3. Brain dead police
4. GTA IV’s controls aren’t reliable
5. Same dry missions
6. Strippers wear bikinis
7. You restart missions at the beginning
8. Achievement points are too difficult to unlock

While GTA IV certainly isn’t for everyone, bashing the game like this doesn’t make a lot of sense considering it’s still one of the best games on the market. Here are my responses to their list:

1. No one said you had to hang out with people. Personally, I completely avoid that aspect of the game. The only real reason to even bother with it would be for achievement purposes. Fortunately, I’m not an “achievement whore”, so I could care less about my gamerscore.

2. I have no idea why their game freezes. I’ve played both the 360 and PS3 versions extensively and have yet to experience a single freeze. Maybe it’s their system.

3. The cops are brain dead. I’ll give them that point.

4. I personally like the controls. I also like how you can revert to “classic control” if that’s your thing.  There are a few small issues, but you really have to look at the big picture.  GTA IV isn’t perfect, but it’s still great.

5. The missions are better than previous GTA games, so there’s no room to bitch there. Of course I’d like to see improvements in future titles, but RockStar did a great job improving nearly every aspect of the game.

6. Does anyone really care what the strippers wear? Hanging out at the strip club is something you do the first day you get the game. It’s also such a small aspect of Liberty City that it’s not even worth complaining about. If you are really that hard up for nudity, just check out pron on the net.

7. You should restart missions at the beginning. I truly believe there should be a cost for failure in games. GTA IV isn’t a particularly difficult game, so if you fail a mission, you probably should start from the beginning as a penalty.

8. Honestly… Who gives a flying **** about achievement points? Some games they are way too easy to get and other games like GTA IV they are a little tougher. Achievement points were simply a marketing tool created by Microsoft to get people to play longer than they normally would. It’s really in your best interest to play games for enjoyment, not for silly points.

Don’t take my opinion as a bashing of GameDaily. They have some good articles I read from time to time. This just seemed like the typical “let’s say something against popular opinion to get exposure” deal. Of course, they always work so I can’t blame them.  Some may already be tired of GTA IV, but the Kezins crew will be playing this title for a long, long time….

This article may actually be fun to check on from time to time for the comments. One of the first comments that made me laugh was from ‘omegablem’:

I think that gta iv is a far better game than you make it sound - ya some of the dialog is cheesy and PG in some cases, and sure maybe you have to go out of your way to go drinking with roman or the strip club with brucie but doesn’t having free roam and practically limitless options for mayhem make up for it? If you put it down in three days it is because you lack imagination - so go ahead bash this game, then pick up your ds and play pokemon like a good little girl…
