Things haven’t looked real positive for the ESA in recent times.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the ESA (Entertainment Software Association), they are best known for organizing E3 every year.  The E3 Expo is also a former shell of what it once was.  Several companies have opted to pull out of the ESA recently including iD Software, Activision, LucasArts, and Vivendi.  There are still numerous companies sticking with the organization, but one has to wonder if there’s something bad going on…

Very little information has been released by the ESA or the companies who pulled out, leaving the situation in a very gray area.

In an official statement from the ESA, senior VP of communications and research Rich Taylor said:

“We can confirm that id Software has decided not to renew its membership in the ESA. We admire their creativity and innovation. We also respect their decision.”
