Five Land of the Dead screenshots were recently released for ‘Sword of the New World’. I haven’t actually sampled the game myself, but the screens are enough to make me want to. I’ll probably be finding out more about this game in the near future!

To help celebrate our new SMB WordPress layout, we decided to track down a flash version of the game, so our readers could relive their SMB memories. It’s not as great as playing the original, but certainly not bad for a free flash game. Enjoy the game!

Blu-Ray

It was only a short time ago that the HD format war ended. As we all know (I especially) that Blu-ray won due to it’s integration within the Playstation 3. With Blu-ray being the only true Full HD 1080p playback the sales can continue to rise. I know some people believe the upscaling DVD players are a good deal, but to watch No Country for Old Men on Blu-ray through 1080p the comparison is not there.

“According to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, Disney’s Blu-ray title ‘No Country for Old Men’ drew 9.8 percent of its total unit sales from Blu-ray during its first five days in stores.

The Blu-Ray version of Fox’s ‘Hitman was even more popular - 12.6 percent of total customers bought the Blu-ray version during its first five days on sale.

In comparison, sales of HD DVD titles, prior to the format being dropped, were rarely more than 2% or 3% of a title’s total disc sales.”

“Not only is my background Blue, so is my disc”

Expect more Blu-ray players to be manufactured and at a cheaper price since there are non-gamers who would like a Blu-ray player without a PS3 attached to it. Call them crazy I say. For $399, you have yourself a PS3/Blu-ray player that updates itself through firmware available through the web. Oh yeah and with BD-Live.

For those of you that check out the Konsole Kingz on Xbox LIVE, it looks like Yaya Han will be the next Konsole Queen available on the marketplace in April.   She was recently featured on Japanator and is certainly making a name for herself in gaming circles.  This model / cosplayer / costume designer is certainly one interesting person.  Check out her site sometime.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Trailer
I’m not sure what to say about the new Guitar Hero game coming out. To be honest, I was completely “over” the whole Guitar Hero thing a day after I started playing Rock Band. The above trailer really doesn’t show us anything new or exciting for the GH franchise. I’m sure it will sell well considering so many people love Aerosmith, but I’m just not really interested in the game at this point. It’s really time they take GH back to the shop and add something new to the series to compete with what Rock Band has to offer.

Finally, Microsoft has stripped numerous cheaters of their Xbox LIVE GamerScores.  One example would be StripClubDJ who had actually reached over 100,000 points.  He’s now back down to “0″.  The current crackdown is going after gamers who are using game save files to boost their GamerScore.  In addition to being knocked back down to “0″, they will have a cheater icon added to their profile and all achievements that were taken away will be permanently locked. This is certainly a welcomed action by Microsoft.  I still think they need to permanently ban cheaters by banning the actual console or IP address they are using, but I suppose this is at least a positive move.  If we lived in a perfect world, people who cheat on XBL would be flogged in public, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.  Now, I would like to see Bungie and Microsoft do the same thing to people who boost their ranks on Halo 3.

I recently posted the following article on my Destructoid Community Blog:

I’ve read several articles recently that claim video games can cause flashbacks…

I’m usually the first person to defend gaming and do truly believe that more positive things come out of playing games than negative. In this particular situation, I have personal experiences that lean towards the negative aspects…

On the morning of April 16, 2007, I was standing outside of Norris Hall on the Virginia Tech campus. I had just finished working a night shift for the VT Police Department (due to a non-disclosure agreement, I can’t get too into detail with what happened), but wasn’t tired for some reason. My dad worked in the building across from Norris Hall, so I was hoping to run into him so we could grab some breakfast at McDonalds. The strange thing about the day was the fact that the weather was colder and windier than usual for a mid-April morning. It also just seemed like a strange day from the beginning. I somehow knew it was going to be a bad day from the beginning. When I was leaving work, I heard about 2 students being shot in the dorms, but had no idea what was about to happen. I also didn’t know until later in the afternoon that one of the first victims was a good friend of mine.

sdvr2009_log.jpg

To me, there is just something I enjoy about a good wraslin game. Smackdown vs. Raw’s images look as sweet at 2008’s edition with an updated roster of course. The online function of 2009 should be better now that they had a full swing at online gaming. My dilema in 2008 was the lack of old school wrestler’s, hopefully with cheat codes they’ll bring back Coco BeWare.

From these pics it looks like John Cena will be the cover man again. Although Randy Orton is the wrestler of the future.
