Hey folks, Kezins here with the *OFFICIAL* announcement of our Grand Theft Auto IV giveaway! One lucky reader of our blog is going to be the proud owner of a brand-spankin’ new copy of GTA IV for Xbox 360. As usual, there are some rules you all have to follow to make sure this is a nice, clean giveaway. This contest is open to anyone who is not on our current staff list! You must be 18 years of age to be considered. Rules:
- In order to submit a contest entry, readers simply need to comment on the blog fromMarch 26, 2008 until April 29th, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
- Any comment on any article will be counted as an entry, so comment often! Make sure you use a working email address for the comment field! If we can’t contact you, the prize will automatically go to a second drawing.
- Only legitimate comments will be counted towards the contest. So no “Cool” or “Fag” comments. We’re giving this thing away for free, so the least you can do is make a coherent sentence.
- At the end of the contest, all of the comments will be tallied and be put in a huge sack. I personally will pass by the local drug store, where a bum on the corner will be tricked into picking out a comment, thinking there’s some yummy alcohol in the bag; Bum will pull out comment, winner will be chosen, and I shall thank the bum by throwing iced coffee at his bag of clothes. Just kidding. We will have a third party select a comment number at random.
- Barring any more release delays by Rockstar, we will ship the game to the winner of our comment contest on April 29 (as soon as we contact the winner via email and receive a shipping address) to any location in the United States or Canada. The only exception to the shipping rule will be for any deployed soldiers who have a legitimate APO/FPO address we can send it to. As a combat veteran myself, I’d certainly not keep any of our soldiers out of the contest just because they are deployed.

You had me at “All your base are belong to us.” I noticed a link to Play Asia, I was a member of the site or on their mailing list or something but I haven’t visited in a while.I’m excited that you’re doing a GTA 4 contest. After spending a significant chunk of my life playing San Andreas, I’m ready for another GTA experience.
I saw your comment about most games being for adults.
As a 33 year old mom and an 80’s baby, I hate it when people who have never picked up a controller make broad generalizations.
Us 80’s kids are the first generation that grew up playing video games.
I get a lot of crap for being a woman as well as being an older gamer.But I’ll continue to play video games until I’m too old and decrepit to see the TV screen.

I get really annoyed when people like Jack Thompson for instance jump all over games talking about how bad they are for the kids… when in actuality it’s primarily people between 25 and 35 playing the games. Of course there are young kids playing GTA on occasion, but that’s really a parenting issue. I definitely believe in keeping ‘M’ games away from kids. We’ll probably be hearing something from him here before long. He used to stalk my articles when I wrote for Gaming Today lol

March 28th, 2008 at 12:28 pmYes, I’ve noticed that a lot of politicians promise to outlaw violent video games in their campaigns.
According to one top video game magazine, the footage and screenshots that these politicians are using as examples are from very old games and the statistics that are being quoted have errors.
One guy used a still from Night Trap, didn’t he?Rockstar’s Bully was a major target, and I think if any of those guys had played it, they would have realized that it was a mischievious and smart-ass funny game, not the devil’s way of getting in kid’s heads and inciting schoolyard violence.
If you are already “bleepe”-d in the head, you could play Barbie Horse Adventure and hear voices telling you to kill. It’s not the content of games that makes people kill, it’s their mental condition.
I think politicians should concern themselves with more important things than censoring video games. The video game industry already does a great job of regulating itself with the ESRB.

Did you read the story about how two guys sent Thompson flowers to show that gamers are nice ,classy people and he told the news media that the flowers were a veiled threat?
I was just thinking , a certain politician who made anti-gay comments turned out to be gay.
So does that mean that Jack Thompson, after a day of railing against evil video games, puts in a copy of Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball and spanks it to Kasumi-chan?

Here we go again. Once again, video games are blamed for everything.
Why doesn’t anyone ever blame faulty parenting?
One top video game magazine said that having options in video games to turn off blood, pixelate nudity or bleep out curse words would be a good idea.

It looks like the pack ins included with limited editions are getting more elaborate.
I thought the Halo 3 legendary edition was the best limited edition game, but maybe there’ll be a trend toward bigger and better limited edtions.Japan still has the best bonus items and colors of consoles that never make it here.

April 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pmI also like the idea of having options in games to filter out adult content, but I think in the end it’s still up to parents to keep an eye on their kids. I’m definitely against censorship and strongly against government involvement with our purchasing habits.
It seems to me that history is just repeating itself. In the 50s and 60s it was comic books. In the 70s it was movies. In the 80s they attacked rap music, in the 90s they were going against everything it seemed and now lately video games are taking the blame.
I think stores should be severely find if they sell a rated “M’ game to kids. If their parents purchase the game and let their kids play, there’s really not much society can do about it. I think if the anti-game people had their way, we’d be headed towards some kind of fascist controlling society. What’s next? Are we going to start burning books and art?
